30 Before 30 Progress

6. Journal for 30 days.

I thought this was going to be an easy thing to cross off my list but it wasn't. In February, Beezy bought me a journal. He knew that this was one of the things on my 30 Before 30 list and it was also one of my Valentines Day presents. Yes, I have this blog but it's also available for anyone to see and read. Strangers can stumble upon it, ex friends, co-workers etc. I may post about my life to the interwebs but there is just some things that I want to talk about but never on the blog. Having a journal is a place that I can do that in.

 

I started writing in my journal on February 12, 2014 and finished on April 27, 2014. I did 30 days over that time period. In that time, I also visited San Francisco, Napa and Puerto Rico. I was a little busy but I was able to get 30 days in. I plan on continuing to write in it whenever the urge hits me. I love this journal and I love  being able to write down everything that I've done during the day. What I'm thinking about and the things that I'm hoping for and dreaming about. As for the journal itself, I love the strap that let's me hold it all together. I'm really glad Beezy got it for me... good choice!

So there you have it another thing off my list.

Maybe once I fill this journal up, I'll start another one. For right now this one will be just fine.

Words Wouldn't Be Enough

Its amazing how life can lead you to someone.

In August 2012, I moved to Sacramento. My situation then was very different. I was already mentally done with a relationship that lasted far too long than it should have. In October I met Beezy at work. I had seen him around but hadn't really spoken to him. Then we started interacting more at work and became genuine friends. We would hang out and come over to each other's houses. We'd watch television together, eat meals together and just hang out. He'd have huge parties at his house and he'd always make sure I was going to be there. He would make it clear to me that he really liked me. Liked me for me.

I kept going on dates with people and so did he. We became best friends. I'd tell him about my days. He'd tell me about his. I'd share stories of being in West Virginia and he'd tell me about his 1349308 cousins. He'd make me laugh when I was sad. I'd try to make sure he wasn't sad. Over a year of us being friends something changed. He came over to my house one day while I was hanging out with a girl friend of mine. We asked him what he'd been up to and he said he had went on a date. I was actually surprised. It caught me so off guard. I sat on my couch, trying to control my face. You see... the whole time we'd been friends he'd never talk to me about him going out on any dates. Yeah, he'd mention dates he had been on in the past but nothing present. So when he told me he went out on a date with someone I knew I was shocked.

I had to know all the details.

When he left my house that night and when my friend left, I think I cried. I was confused because we were such good friends. I didn't want some girl coming in and taking my best friend away from. Everyone knows when your guy best friend starts dating someone the friendship takes the backseat. And then there was the fact that I thought that him telling me about the date was his way of saying he had given up on me. That he wasn't going to wait anymore for me. That he'd given up hope that we'd ever be anything more than friends.

So after that night, we kept hanging out like normal. He told me the date was just a one date. We started going to more Kings games together and Thanksgiving approached. He knew that I wasn't going to be able to go home to see family. He invited me to go to Lake Tahoe with his family and I agreed. Then my mom surprised me with a plane ticket so off to WV I went. When I came back we kept hanging out. Then the night before I left for WV in December he made a move. We had our first kiss. I was still worried about our friendship. I went home for two weeks and spent the holiday there. We'd text all day and talk and skyped a few times. It was our normal friendship but different. When I came back we became inseparable. We started hanging out everyday and I finally started calling it something more than just a friendship.

I can't imagine what I'd do without him. I don't want to imagine. He makes me happy. He makes me smile every single day. He appreciates me. He makes meals for me. He looks out for me and takes care of me. I've never had someone care for me so much besides my mother. He rubs my feet when I'm tired. He shows me so much appreciation. I just hope that I show him as much as he shows me.

I can't believe the universe brought him to me. I'm so glad that we were friends first. I'm so happy that our friendship has become stronger and that our relationship is genuine. I care so much about him. I thankful everyday that he's in my life. He's definitely my boo boo. Now and forever.

Restroom Rules from Beezy

Beezy is a pretty calm person. He's laid back. Doesn't panic or stress out about things like I do. He takes things as it comes. However... there's one thing that will make him enter into a rant and it's bathroom etiquette. He's ranted on this issue more than once, more than twice. The third time I had to sit and listen to him over a restroom rant, I knew it needed to be a blog post. So without further ado...

Beezy's Restroom Rules

 

1. If you go into a restroom with three urinals/stalls, you do not go into the middle one. Why? Because it's an unwritten rule. There needs to be a one stall buffer. If you go into the middle stall you've just rendered the other stalls useless.

 

2. If you finish using the bathroom and there's other people in there, wash your hands! There's people out there who don't wash their hands. Ok, fine but if there's other people in that restroom and you know they know you're in there. WASH YOUR HANDS. You don't have to use soap but at least throw some water on them.

 

3. If you're going into the bathroom knowing that you're going to release Mount St. Helene's. Can we get a courtesy flush? No one wants to hear your machine gun action into the toilet.

 

4. In the event that you have to use a urinal and there is no buffer. DO NOT look to the left or right. Who cares if it's the most boring wall you've ever looked at in the world, you do not look to the sides. No one wants to have a conversation while you are using the urinal.

 

5. This is not your office. You don't sit on the toilet in a public restroom having a full on conversation. No one wants to know who your lunch date is later in the day. We don't want to hear your business deals. We also don't want to hear you arguing with your spouse. This is a safe zone. Some of us need to concentrate.

Weekend Review

Easter weekend has come and gone. Before I tell you all about Easter 2014, let's throw it back to Easter 1986. When I was almost two years old. Aw... baby JMO.

Clearly I may have been a little spoiled. I had those bears in my bedroom till I was in high school! And before you ask my hair was naturally blonde and somewhat curly. And yes... that is a dress I'm wearing. Now onto Easter 2014.

My mom and I have been exchanging baskets since I can remember. Once I moved out to California at the end of 2012, we kept exchanging baskets. We've been using the same baskets for years but mine was left in West Virginia. This year when my mom sent me my Easter goodies, she included a felt basket so now I've got a basket again! Yay! This year my mom didn't disappoint. She sent an entire box of treats.

It was filled with candy (that I don't need), dvds and some books that I've been wanting to read. Prodigy (in the Legend series and the next Stuart Woods book). Then Beezy surprised me with an Easter basket as well! It was filled with new Nike socks and new shoes on top! They are too cute. Their blue with a cheetah print woven in the background of the blue. They feel really great on my feet which is a big deal.

I spent Saturday making at Beezy's request Raspberry cupcakes with vanilla frosting. I topped them off with some pretzel M&Ms. Since I took them to one of his family events and he has family that's allergic to peanuts.



 



The Easter bunny also paid a visit to Beezy and brought him a little something from bunny land. Remember how I mentioned he's really into those Game of Thrones Funko Pop toys? Well the Easter bunny brought him a rare one from Canada and some of the new mini figurines that they've come out with recently. He also got a back scratcher, gun, mints, etc.

My Birthday Wish List

I'm turning the dirty 30 in just a few short months. To be precise it's only 63 days away. It's a big birthday and as of right now I have absolutely no idea how I'm going to celebrate it. I keep thinking about having these grandiose plans to send out my 20's and start my 30's but I just don't know what to do. I just got back from Puerto Rico and a month after my Birthday I'm spending a week in Hawaii. Then I'm going to Las Vegas in September. See... it's hard to figure out what to do. I know my mom is going to come out and visit. I can't wait for that! I'm sure we'll get into something fun in CA. 

As for the gifts... I'm not one to specifically say, "Oh my gosh I need a gift, buy it!" But some of these little gems have been on my want list for awhile. 

1. A nice DSLR camera.

5. I want to visit the famous Madonna Inn! Their rooms are fun, unique and maybe a little cheesy but fun! It's located about 4 hours south of Sacramento in San Louis Obispo.

I'm sure there will be other things I can think of because seriously who doesn't love thinking of things that they'd love to have. But for now this is my want list for the Birthday!


Documentry

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing... it's Theater Thursday. This week I'm talking about another documentary that I recently viewed... Mike Tyson's: The Undisputed Truth.

 I've always had a curiosity with Mike Tyson. I'm not a huge fan of boxing and the extent of my knowledge in the sport is pretty limited ie. the Rocky movies. I'm thinking my interest with Tyson goes back to the day of when he bite a man's ear off in the ring. So when I heard they filmed his Broadway show Undisputed Truth into a documentary I knew I had to see it. I thought it was really good and I totally recommend watching it. 

 

Depending on how much you already know about Mike Tyson (if you are like me not a lot then), then you may know about the main things. The mainstream information: heavyweight champion of the world, was famously married to an actress whom claims he beat her, bite a mans ear off while fighting in the ring, cameo in Hangover. Now here's some stuff you may not know: loves pigeons, spent three years in prison for a crime he swears he didn't commit, only has a grade school education, is a recovering drug addict, lost a child, had millions but lost it all. The list can go on and on. The one thing I noticed in his life that's a recurring theme... He never gave up.

He's always starred at adversary. He went to rehab and has been sober for years. He tries to honor the memory of the child he lost. He's been working with educators to try and better himself and educate himself since he didn't do that when he was younger. One thing about Mike is he's kind of hard to understand. He doesn't have the greatest speech. But you have to hand it to him, he's working on it. In the documentary he stands there and talks to the audience the entire time. He shares stories on his life, he talks about the good times and the bad but the one thing he talks about is his how he works with a speech therapist working on his speech. 

I really liked this documentary. It made me more interested in boxing and since the only thing I've ever liked about it has been those Rocky movies that says a lot. So give this one a try.

Weekend Review

On Thursday, Beezy and I headed over to San Francisco to catch a Giants game. This past week was their opening week and we were able to make it to their second game of the season. Before the game we hit up Pedro's Cantina where I indulged and ate two nachos.

 

The Giants were giving away scarfs to the first 20,000 in the stands so of course we had to make sure to get there in time. I'm a sucker for a free goodie.

See those seats behind us? That is literally the last row in the stadium. We were that high in AT&T Park. I thought it was really fun. I've never sat up that high and neither had Beezy. If you've ever been to San Francisco or to a Giants game then you know that the day can be warm but the moment the sun goes down it's freezing. SF also has a very strong breeze. Well we went prepared... or so we thought.

 

We were freezing. The breeze up in those seats was insane. The wind was cutting us like a knife. Thank goodness they passed out those scarfs! Beezy had only taken a light weight jacket and I took a sweater. Needless to say I bought a hooded sweatshirt. I couldn't take the cold. However in the 5th inning we upgraded our seats to hang out with his cousins. The wind was much more manageable down near the field.

 

After the game we headed back to Sacramento and I was very excited about the heat in the car. It took me the whole ride back to thaw out. All in all it was a fun time! The giants lost by one run though. I spent the rest of the weekend just running errands and relaxing. Since Easter is coming up, I've got a busy few days coming up.

Documentary

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing... it's Theater Thursday! This week's featured movie isn't technically a movie, it's a documentary... Blackfish.

Originally, I wasn't going to watch it. I kept hearing about it and then I learned what it was and still hadn't planned on watching it. I've been to Sea World twice in my life. I love wildlife animals like the ones that are kept in zoos, aquariums and places like Sea World. Then after I kept hearing and hearing about it, I finally gave in and watched the documentary.

Personally now that I've seen this, I will definitely think twice about ever going to Sea World again or at least any place that has whales. I get that there is always two sides to a story but the news and the evidence that's available to anyone who wants to look it up is very compelling.

Blackfish is a documentary that interviews many former employees of Sea World who were direct trainers to the killer whales. These were also the most visible people because they were in the shows that take place in front of thousands at the Shamu shows. What I didn't know when I was at Sea World and you may not know as well is that Shamu isn't really Shamu anymore. Out in the wild these whales can live the lifespan of basically a human 60-70 years. In captivity they are living about 20 years. So Shamu from the 1980's... he's not really the real Shamu anymore. He's a whale... a killer whale who was captured in the wild and brought into a marine theme park.

In captivity these whales are dying after just a few decades. They are also showing aggressive behavior towards fellow whales held in the tank and their trainers. Several trainers have been injured and killed while working with the whales and during live shows. Think about it... would you be mad if someone put you in basically a bathtub and said spend the next 50 years here until you die. Um yes! Those huge tanks Sea World has... their a bathtub size compared to the ocean that's out there.

So if you get the time watch this documentary. It'll definitely make you look differently at Sea World and how the whales must feel.

5. Visit the Castle Winery in Napa.

One of the many things I've wanted to do since moving to Sacramento was to travel the short distance to Napa, California. On Friday, April 4th and in less than two hours, I arrived to Castello di Amorosa also known as the Castle Winery. Technically the winery is in Calistoga but is considered a part of Napa since it's right there with it and many other wineries. Castello di Amorosa is known as the Castle winery because obviously it looks like a castle.

As far as wineries in Napa go this one is fairly new. It was built and finished in 2007 and since then it's become one of the greatest. The winery is considered a boutique winery because it only bottles about 25,000 cases a year compared to larger wineries that bottle about 250,000 cases a year. The wine made at Castello can only be found and bought at the winery. It's not available in stores outside of the winery.

We did the standard tour and tasting. It lasted about two hours and didn't seem too rushed or too slow. We were able to see the entire property and taste 10 different wines.

Everything about the Castle was as authentic as possible. The owners had as much as possible brought over from Italy. They flew painters over, fixtures, scoured the country for authentic historical pieces of equipment etc. They really tried to do it right. I think they succeeded. The winery was great and I think I'll probably go back in the fall for the stomping of the grapes. I was glad to be able to cross this one off my 30 Before 30 List!

Weekend Review

This past weekend was a busy one. I felt like I never stopped? Does anyone else hate feeling busy on their off days? It's like a double edged sword. I love doing new, fun things but I hate not getting to just relax and sit on the couch. I need a weekend where I just do nothing and I'm not foreseeing one for a few more weeks.

On Thursday, Beezy and I got a surprise text from his best friend saying he was getting married at the courthouse later in in the day. Well... OK! So we had to change and head downtown to make it in time for him to a witness.

On Friday, we got up early and braved the early rain and headed to Napa. Post to come soon, promise!

It was a really fun time. I liked Napa a lot. I noticed not only the smell of wine in that town but MONEY. Haha! I think I'll be going back soon to visit another winery but I'm definitely planning on going back in the fall when they start to stomp the grapes.

I met Beezy's dad this weekend as well. I swear he looks exactly like this guy...

It was like I was sitting across from the star of American Me all afternoon. He was really nice though and now I've met almost everyone in his family.

I also worked on some business plans. Yes, yes. I know. I haven't explained those but I'm not going to until the website is up and running. Hang in there!

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

The Good...

I got a part time job at an event planning company, specifically wedding planning.!I've always wanted to get into that kind of business and after thinking about it for years I finally started applying. After many resumes and cover letters I finally landed an interview. I knew the gig was going to be part time because that was the position I applied for on their website. It's a start and could lead to something really great and more importantly something that I enjoy and have fun doing.

 

The Bad...

 I don't have a specific start date. The weddings that they have lined up aren't for a few more months. The owner is trying to get me incorporated into some other activities, planning etc but it could be a little while before I actually start. But hey... it's experience in a tough field to break into.

 

The Ugly...

I was 30 minutes late for the interview. I am never late. Ever. Until that day I had never been late to any interview ever. Ever! Beezy thought he would be really nice and drive me so I wouldn't have to worry about street parking. He put the address of the place (which neither of us had ever been to) into his phone for the directions and off we went. Well first of all, we hit every street light. Every single one. Then traffic started to just stop. It became bumper to bumper traffic and sitting at one light for three green lights and never seeing your lane move. We get 2 miles away so I send her a message and say I know I'm 5 minutes late but I'm only 2 mines away caught in horrible traffic.

 

Then the unthinkable happens. We get the two miles and the place is no where to be found. The gps has us at the address but it's train tracks and no building. Um. Where the heck are we? Turns out we were on the opposite end of town and 12 miles away from the actual building. Traffic was awful. It took us 35 minutes to get to the wrong place. It was going to take a crazy amount of time to get 12 more miles. If I was someone doing the hiring, I wouldn't hire anyone who was over 5 minutes late. I figured it was a lost cause.

 

I ended up calling the owner of the company who I was to meet and told her what happened. She's originally not from Sacramento so she totally understood how traffic is and getting lost. She wanted an entire half an hour on me. The interview was over an hour long and we got along really great. She was so nice! She hired me so it ended up working out!

Theater Thursday

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing... it's Theater Thursday! This week's featured movie is, Escape Plan.

Escape plan stars two movie legends: Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ray Breslin (Stallone) is a structural engineer who has spent his life on the insides of prisons. He spends his days testing the reliability of maximum security prisons. He goes inside as a prisoner and learns the guards habits, the structure of the prison and exploits any weakness it may have.  He has always escaped. He's found a way out of every prison he's ever went on the inside... until now.

When Ray is hired by a secret branch of the government to go into an undisclosed facility at a location unknown to him he finds himself in a place where all his plans have gone wrong. His safe word to get out isn't working and he can't find a way out. He befriends one fellow prisoner (Schwarzenegger) who helps him as much as he can to find a way out. They fight together to learn where they are being kept, who put them there to rot and why. They also have to trust each other which isn't something men in jail are too fond of doing. Definitely when one is a criminal and the other known for helping keep people in prisons.

Will Ray (Stallone) get back out and into his real life? Or will he be stuck in this prison forever because of a job gone wrong? Also if he does get out will he help a real prisoner escape? Watch and find out! It's two legends together in one action movie! It's almost as if the 90's are back!

Don't Be Fooled

It only took me three months but I'm finally talking about books I've been reading this year! The first book I read this year was Spelling It Like It Is by Tori Spelling.

 I had previously read all of Tori's books. I read her first book at a time in my life where I could really relate to some things she had going on. Her second and third books I had less to relate to but she always seems to have something funny or clever to say. This book however felt like it was depressing. Tori had complications with her last two pregnancies and the book followed those in major detail. The book also talks about her relationship with her kids, her mother and of course her husband.

This book came out before the rumors of Dean and his cheating. I also read it before the news broke about him checking himself into a rehab facility. Having grown up watching Tori on 90210 and in all of her Lifetime original movies plus seeing her on her own reality show, I feel extremely sad for her. Yes she has a lot of great things going on in her life but when you have something awful happen in your love life it can really affect your life. In the books she talks about her love for her husband and her kids. It's sad to think that while she was writing this book he was out there in world doing who know what.

Honestly, if you've read Tori's other books stop there. This one will depress you. It'll make you feel sad for her, the kids and everyone involved. She's apparently in a lot of debt and openly talks about it. She has an addiction to moving and buying property....

I guess we all have our vices... some more expensive than others. Don't be fooled by reading this book thinking it's a happy ending story. Their still in debt and still having problems. I give this book 2 stars.
