Memorial Day Weekend

It's Memorial Day!

This weekend, I celebrated my freedom by watching...
I've seen two of the other X-Men movies so I knew what to expect but even if you hadn't seen the previous movies you could follow this film. It was way better than last week's Godzilla.

I also spent Memorial Day Weekend eating off the grill...

Making a balloon wreath for a Birthday!

And buying snorkeling gear...On sale!
Have a good one!!!

My Real Life Romancing the Stone

I love the movie Romancing the Stone.

I've posted about it on Theater Thursday and I posted about why it's not just a movie. When I first moved to California, I started watching the movie more often than I had before. The movie sort of became my go to comfort. It always made me feel better when I was watching it. I'd come home after a long day at work to an empty house, eat some dinner and put on the movie. I loved the story and it just made me feel better.

When Beezy and I first started dating, one night we were trying to figure out what movie to watch. I told him let's see what is already in the dvd player and watch it. Guess what movie it was? Romancing the Stone.

He had never seen it.

That settled it. We had to watch it. We cued up the movie and that's when I realized I was living my own real life version of Romancing the Stone.

  • Joan (Kathleen Turner) writes romance novels. I write a blog.
  • Joan has a miniature liquor bottle collection. I have a miniature liquor bottle collection too!
  • Joan was single and believed the man of her dreams was out there. Amen sister, me too! He's out there.
  • Joan has to leave everything and go to another country. I left everyone I knew and went to the other side of the country.
  • Joan has a cat named Romeo. I have a cat named Tesco.

Joan has written tons of romantic novels that feature a guy whom she'd love to meet in real life. In her books his name is Jessie.

I don't know how but I had forgot that this was her fictional hero's name. Guess what Beezy's real middle name is... Jessie. I couldn't believe it! How coincidental was this?! So what happens when she meets her real life hero? They didn't exactly hit it off at first. Beezy and I were just friends in the beginning.

During their time in the movie together Joan and Jack (Michael Douglas) have to go through a lot together but they become stronger. They become a team. I've learned that I have become stronger over time. Emotionally stronger. Mentally stronger. I know that I can do whatever I set my mind to. Now with Beezy in my life I feel even stronger. He feels stronger. We're become a team. We've become our version of Joan and Jack T Colton.

And that's how I'm living my real life romancing the stone. I'm loving every minute of it.

Theater Thursday: Why I can't watch scary movies

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing... it's Theater Thursday! This week's featured movie is, The Purge. A movie that I will never watch again because it scared me so much I still can't stop thinking about it.
A few weeks ago while I was at the movie theater, I saw a preview for a movie called the Purge 2. It looked a little scary but interesting. The concept seemed different so I decided to look up the first movie because I had missed hearing about it when it first came out. Uh oh... it was labeled a horror movie. I am not a scary movie fan. I am more of Sound of Music, Jurassic Park, Trading Places kind of movie fan. Now in my defense, I did watch the first 3 Scream movies and they weren't too scary. Yes I don't think I could sleep the night of watching them but I did and have seen them multiple times.

I figured if I could watch Scream 1-3 then I could watch the Purge and be alright. Wrong.
(aren't they supper creepy)

The Purge is set in modern time but a different kind of society. Once a year for 12 hours, all Emergency services such as 911, Fire, EMT, hospitals, Police are all unavailable. In addition to that fact, during those 12 hours you are allowed to commit any kind of crime without retribution from the law including the crime of Murder. Obviously, richer people can protect themselves against the purge better than a poor person. The Purge focuses on one family who is able to protect themselves during the 12 hour purge period. However, their night doesn't go as planned. For the next 12 hours, we see one families struggle to protect themselves when they started the night having no idea they would ever need to.

I watched the entire movie. I didn't think I was going to about half way through. I swear I worked my way to a stomach ulcer wondering if the family was going to die. Then I spent the entire night freaking out once the lights went out. A noise? Is that someone breaking in! What if America really started doing the purge?! How could I secure my house? I need to buy shot guns! I need to stock up on ammo! I need a bunker. No really! The list went on and on. I was completely freaked out. Flash to last week... I woke up around 4am thinking I heard a noise outside of someone trying to come in my front door. I spent the next half our trying to figure out if it was a dream or not.

I won't be watching The Purge 2.

My Favorite Glam Bag

I've mentioned once before that I subscribe to  Ipsy Glam Bags. I've been getting glam bags for about six months and I've always really enjoyed the products. Each time a bag comes, the products get better and better. They are also more suitable to things that I really like and would use. It exposes me to new brands, new shades, new smells and things that I might not buy myself in the store. The bags also include brands and staples in my make-up and skin care routines. They also come in super cute pouches that I can use for other things later on.

This month Ipsy out did themselves. Every product was something that I would want in the store. Here's exactly what I got:

Pacifica Mineral Eye Shadow Duo

Boo Boo Cover Up

Eva NYC Mane Tamer Leave in Cream

Jersey Shore Sun Sunscreen

Mee Beauty Bee Nourished Night Cream

The eye shadow came in a combo that I would wear daily. The cover up is something I definitely need right now. The mane tamer I have a feeling I'll need while I'm in Hawaii along with that sunscreen. My favorite product though... the night cream! This stuff is amazing and I would never have known about it if it wasn't for Ipsy. I will probably buy a jug of this stuff! You know what I'm really happy about though? The fact that they didn't send me any lip products.

What?!? You might say.

I rarely wear a product on my lips. I have really sensitive lips and using a lipstick or gloss can actually cause me to break out with a cold sore. So instead of wanting to walk around looking like I have disease I choose to go around with bare lips. They've sent me some lip products before and I've had the opportunity to tell them what I think. FINALLY they have listened. So have you ever tried Ipsy? Go ahead. Give it a shot. It's 10.00 a month and that includes the shipping. You might find something really great that you didn't know about. Plus it's always a fun little surprise in the mail.

Use my code! We can both start earning reward points towards free stuff! Oh yeah, did I mention that? Every month you earn points by getting bags and reviewing the products. So not only do you get a say in what you like and want sent to you again but you also get rewards for doing it.

Weekend Review

The Sacramento Kings had a VIP event over the weekend. You could come down to the arena and pick out new seats for next season. They were also providing food and drinks. Enough said! Besides their amazing macaroni and cheese which by the way included bacon bits, we chose some new seats. Lower level and behind the opposing team bench.
We're actually on the other side of the photo and closer. Last year we sat on the side behind the basketball hoop. Don't worry, I'm sure when the season starts, I'll bombard you with Kings Game photos from the awesome seats.

Did I mention my All-American wreath? I don't think I did. This year I've gotten into making a wreath for every holiday. This is what I made for Memorial Day...
Yep. Watch out Martha Stewart. I'm coming for you! Side note: I bought Martha Stewart stock and every day since then it's went down. So really MS watch your back. You will be seeing this wreath again in my 4th of July décor. I made it though and it took some time.

This weekend, I went to the movies and saw...
This is not my type of movie but it was actually a decent watch. Will I watch it again? No but it was entertaining for the two hours that it took for Godzilla to destroy everything (not a spoiler).

Speaking of movies in the last two- three weeks, I've seen a ton of new movies:

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty- Horrible
Grudge Match- Good, I'd watch it again
Last Vegas- Not what I was expecting but good
Dallas Buyers Club- Couldn't watch the whole thing
The Wolf on Wall Street- Longest movie ever
Gravity- Good

If I hadn't had a redbox coupon that allowed me to rent The Secret Life of Walter Mitty for 32 cents then I'd be asking for my 1.50 back. I thought the entire movie was awful. I'm glad I didn't waste money on it back in the theater. And that was my weekend!

Happy Monday!

Theater Thursday

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing... It's Theater Thursday! This week's featured movie is, Grudge Match!

Grudge Match stars two heavyweights: Sylvester Stallone as Henry "Razor" Sharp and Robert De Niro as Billy "the kid" McDonnen. These two aging, long standing rivals have been retired from boxing for decades. When a boxing video game wants to use them for animations in an upcoming game each fighter agrees as long as the other one won't be present when shooting each other's shots.

When The Kid shows up early, Henry loses his cool and decides to leave. He decides the money isn't worth it and starts to leave. That's not good enough for the Kid. He came there just to see his old rival who he's still holding a Grudge against. They get into an altercation which gets filmed by bystanders and goes viral. The boxing world is now in shock that these two old fighters still hate each other as much as they did decades ago.

The world goes crazy and a new fight is set. The Kid wants to fight because he's been waiting for a rematch for years. Razor wants to fight because he needs the money to help take care of his old trainer and coach. The fight that started kind of as a joke has now inflated into a huge battle between two rivals that is going to clash in one huge fight where the winner takes all. Old friends will come out of the woodwork and we'll find out what their grudge match is really all about.

When Real Life Mean Girls Strike

The last few months I've dealt with some real mean girls. I've always said if you've got haters then you're doing something right. However, to help anyone else out who might be dealing with this or find themselves dealing with it in the future here's a few tips:

1. We can all agree that not everyone in the world is going to get along. People are different. We like different things. We have different view points. We have habits and dislikes that others like and love. We are all adults so let's agree to disagree and let each other be.

2.

Trash talking others to co-workers. That just brings it into work. Don't do it. Steer clear!

3. Sometimes friendships end for whatever reason. Wish the other person the best and be done with it. Don't talk about them and talk about their business with other people. If people want to engage you into talking about them either tell them A) I'm not going to talk about them/it. or b) It's not something worth talking about and change the subject.

4.

Real life mean girl or girls won't leave you alone. If you're in school- report them. If you're in a work environment- report them. No one likes a mean girl, especially a dean/principal and especially not a boss. Most work environments have an HR or a way to talk about working in a hostile working environment.

5.

Vent it out. Write it in a journal. That's the beauty of a journal. It's private and yours. Its not out there for the world to see. Be classy.

6.

Lock it down. Real life mean girls love ammunition so stop their news flow. Make sure your facebook/twitter/instagram is all private. If you don't allow them to follow you then you've at least put a stop to them seeing it on their phones/computers.

7. I know you really want to do this....
It's tempting but don't do it. That's just what they want. Breathe in. Breathe out. Eventually the mean girls will move on or learn their lesson. Either way you'll be a stronger person and prepared for the next time another mean girl comes along.

Weekend Review

Weekends go bye way too fast! I need every weekend to become a five day weekend. Who knows how to only work two days a week? Let me know!

So let's see... I got a new outfit compliments of Beezy.

It's a Piko top in white and the maxi skirt is called Free Life Maxi Skirt in Sky. The entire outfit is from Red Dress and I love it. The top is so comfortable and can be styled many different ways. The skirt's material is so soft and comfortable. I have a feeling this outfit is going to be one of my summer favorites. I'm packing it for Hawaii that's for sure.

When I wasn't lusting over clothing, I stuffed myself with this yummy meal from Brookfields Restaurant.
Bacon and potatoes is my favorite breakfast items. Add in some waffles and we've got a happy JMO. I always love this restaurant so when Beezy suggested we go for breakfast I was all about it. He tried to short cut it and go to ihop but heck no! The next day I made a breakfast even Ihop would have been proud of...
Check out that All-American placemat. Yep! I've busted out some Summer theme/patriotic décor.

Apart from eating and shopping, I was stuck watching the NFL Draft all weekend. What can I say, Beezy is a fan and I'd do anything for him. Including watching hours of draft picks of people who I've never heard of and will probably not remember.
Happy Monday!

Five on Friday

1. After my post on Monday, I received multiple requests on where I purchased this dress.
It's called the Arizona Sunset Maxi Dress and it's from The Red Dress Boutique. Be warned this dress seems to run a little large. I normally wear a medium-large on their sizes but I got this dress and the medium was huge so I had to return it for a small.

2. Can we talk about the Real Housewives of Atlanta for a minute? Yes? Ok good. So I have been watching the RHOA since the beginning. I'm talking before Kandi showed up, before Nene got her nose job and when Bravo Andy had never done a reunion show. But this was my reaction to all three parts of the reunion episodes...

The yelling over top of each other. The actual physical abuse. However, Phaedra was awesome at calling out Kenya regarding her husband. I'm counting down the days till Kim's Don't Be Tardy for the Party show comes back.

3. Beezy renewed his season tickets for the Oakland Raiders and the Sacramento Kings. We went this week and picked out his new seats for the Kings. They kings may lose a lot and they traded my favorite player to the Chicago Bulls but I think the team will always have a special place in my heart because it's where Beezy and I started spending so much time together.

4. So Tesco the Cat @tescothecat and I have been spending some quality time together. He's always laying in front of windows and open doors for hours. He's enjoying the sun and always looking outside. Well... I thought it would be a great idea to get a harness and a leash and walk him outdoors. I don't want him to run away or get loose so I thought that would be a great way to let him be outdoors and keep him safe. The idea led to this happening...

At first he was pretty scared and didn't want to get out of my arms. It wasn't super hot outside so I know he wasn't overheating but he completely freaked. Poor Tesco, he just wanted to hide behind a bush and lay on the ground as flat as possible. So I put him on the concrete and tried to reassure him for a few minutes. When it was clear he wasn't digging it I took him back inside. Poor guy... maybe we'll try it again. I've got the leash and harness. That's for sure.

5. As of today, in this week alone. Beezy has ordered 7 Game of Thrones Funko Pops. I'm not even kidding. He has 43 funko pops and that's before we add in the 7 he just ordered.

Um... I think I created a monster when I bought him his first ones for Valentine's Day. Last week walked into 4 different 7-11's looking for an exclusive GOT funko pop their selling. When's the last time you've been in a 7-11? Exactly. In Sacramento the majority of them are homes for crack dealers, homeless people asking for change and movie goers dropping off Redbox. Please help me track down the exclusive one so I'll never have to enter another 7-11 again.
