Theater Thursday

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing... it's Theater Thursday! It's Halloween and this week we've got to have a great one. This week's featured movie is a Halloween classic and one of my personal favorites, Hocus Pocus!
Hocus Pocus came out in 1993 and stars Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the three Sanderson Sisters, a family of witches. In 1693 right as the sisters are about to be hung by an angry mob, they cast a spell to resurrect themselves on All Hallows Eve when a virgin lights their black flamed candle. Flash forward to October 31, 1993 when Max (Omri Katz) the new kid in town visits the Sanderson Sister museum with his younger sister Dani (Thora Birch). Trying to impress a girl who's one of his new classmates and friend he lights the candle. The Sanderson sisters are back in town!

Before the night comes to an end with sunrise the Sanderson sisters must cast another spell and suck the life out of all the children in town to regain their youth and live forever. Not only does Max at fault for the sisters being back, it becomes really personal because the sisters take Dani from him and will plan to take her life. Now Max along with his classmate and some unlikely new pals must join together to stop them and before the sun comes up.

This movie has become a cult classic over time and no year can pass without watching Hocus Pocus. If you've never seen this then do yourself a favor and watch this movie for a treat!

30 Before 30 Progress

9. Walk around my neighborhood (I've never done this since I moved to CA).
I finally completed this one! I thought it would be one of the easiest but it's actually hard to find the time to walk around your neighborhood instead of driving it. On Saturday, October 26, I finally found the time. I look a 25 minute walk around my neighborhood. I tried to walk down the side streets that I never really drive and make a loop back to my house.

During my walk, I noticed a few things about my neighbors. Most of them seem to take really good care of their lawns. They have the grass mowed and it's very green. They have plants and trees and have good curb appeal. They also have some really nice iron fences. I was so inspired by the walk, I came home and pulled some weeds up from my yard. I really need to stay on it but it's hard to do everything by ones self. I would like to get a new iron fence around my house but I'm pretty for sure that would be pricey.

I think the next thing I really need to do is stain or paint my privacy fence. I've wanted to do this all summer long but it's just SO hot here in the summer. Maybe now that the days are getting a little cooler (aka from 90-100 to 75-85). I'll have to look into this and recruit a friend. I'm sure it would get done a lot faster. Since some of the boards are newer than others, I think my best might be to paint them. Hmm... decisions.

Anyways, I've marked another thing off my list and I feel I know a little bit more about my neighbors.

My Greatest Accomplishment

Last week someone asked me what I thought my greatest accomplishment has been. Since I graduated in college in 2006, I have always said graduating and finishing school. Then I really started to think about it. I thought about everything that's been hard. The things that I've had to be strong through, show determination and dedication. My greatest accomplishment has changed.

Starting a new life. Moving 2,415 miles west to the other side of the continent. Leaving behind every single person I know. Buying a home that I had only walked through for 5 minutes, one time for the first time. Then not seeing it again until the day I moved all of my belongings in to it. Being all alone for months and not seeing family. Learning to take care of everything myself including yard work. Learning how to navigate a new town and not have to use my gps to get to my own home.

Putting myself out there and making new friends. That's not an easy thing as we become older. I've surrounded myself with good people and they've become my family out here. They've helped me not to feel as lonely as I could have been. We have dinners, go to the movies, take road trips... it's been a great experience. I've been able to survive the hard days and make it to the easier ones. I'm hoping that more good times are on the horizon.

So yes, my greatest accomplishment has been making the move across the country. I've been able to start a new life out here. I've been able to work, live and thrive. I'm living my accomplishment. I'm hanging in there and rolling with it. Granted, I can't wait to go home and see my family and friends.

Weekend Update

Going to In-n-Out has become my Friday thing. I can't help it. Their food is good. I have fallen off the wagon. Is there AA meetings for that place?

I bought this little gem...
I love Four. He would be a keeper in the real world. I just hope it ends how I'd like it to. So far I'm not digging how the chapters go back and forth between them. That gets a little confusing. But the end will determine how much I cared about that.

I finally gave in and bought a chambray shirt. I wore it out to Thunder Valley. Now I don't know why I waited so long. I love it! I might even buy another one.
I should mention I would really like that place more if I could win. Instead that place just takes my money and spits me out with my broken dreams and empty pockets. HA!

I also want to say a quick hello to Mr. S if you're reading! Hope you are doing well!

Reading the Classics

I've been reading some classic books that I never read as a kid....

The Hardy Boys!

Recently I've read: The Sign of the Crooked Arrow.

The Jungle Pyramid.

The Secret Agent on Flight 101.
In each one of these books, they follow Joe and Frank Hardy brothers and the sons of famous Detective Fenton Hardy. The brothers are following in their father's footsteps and have become ace detectives themselves. Often their friends Chet and Biff help them out in tight situations but the Hardy's always seem to solve the case.

In each mystery the Hardy Boys are taken to far away places of the earth in the Crooked Arrow it's the wild, wild west. In the Jungle Pyramid case it takes them to the jungles of South America. In the Secret Agent on Fight 101 they find themselves in multiple countries but end up in Ireland.

These books have been fun, little reads and I'm so glad that I'm finally reading them. I'm actually trying to read the entire series. Did anyone know that they made SO many Hardy Boys Books?! Thanks Franklin W. Dixon.

Theater Thursday

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing... it's Theater Thursday! This week's featured movie is another Halloween classic, I Know What You Did Last Summer.
I know what you did last summer came out in 1997 and stars Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Barry (Ryan Phillippe), Helen (Sarah Michelle Gellar) and Ray (Freddie Prince Jr). The four friends have just ended high school and are involved in a car accident on July 4th that resulted in an unknown persons death. Once the summer ends, the four friends separate only to be reunited again a year later over July 4th weekend. When Julie arrives home, her mother hands her a letter that was delivered before her arrival to the house. She opens it to find a note that only reads, "I know what you did last summer."

Completely freaked out and worried, Julie goes into town to track down her old friends and ex-boyfriend Ray. When she shares the note with Helen they agree that something is wrong and someone definitely knows about the accident from last summer. They agree to go find Barry and Ray. During the course of the day they each start receive notes and realize that they are being stalked by a killer and it's someone who knows their secret. Since they are the only four people who know about the accident they can't share with their family what's the matter. They also can't go to the police.
They decide the best thing to do is pretend everything is status quo and go about trying to track down who it could be that knew about the accident. They end up finding themselves all together the same July 4th weekend and doing the exact same events of the previous year. This time will they all make it out alive? Watch this classic scary movie and if you enjoy it you can pick up the sequel... I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

My Turn?

Forewarning: This post may contain a pity party.

Over the years and since leaving college, I've witnessed many of my friends grow up. In the years that have followed college, I've seen friends get engaged. I've seen them get married and have children. I've seen them start new traditions at holidays and throw gender reveal parties. I've attended Easter egg hunts, shopped numerous bridal/baby registries for hours and clicked like to every "We're engaged!", "We're getting married", "A Baby is Coming" status updates, instagram feeds, tweets and blog posts. But recently and now more than ever, I'm wondering when is going to be my turn?
When will I get to post photos of flowers sent to me? And when will I be cruising the isles of Michaels getting supplies for those, "Will you be my bridesmaid boxes?" When will I be able to call my mom and ask her advice on what to do when my baby won't stop crying? Will this ever happen? If so, when? I thought it was going to happen once and then I realized it was all a lie. Maybe that was the worst part, being that close to something I really wanted and then having it all come crashing down.
With the holidays coming up, I've been feeling a little different lately. Instead of being overly excited to decorate, buy gifts and plan things out, I've found myself sad wishing that I had someone to start new traditions with and share in my old ones. I have all these thoughts of why decorate when I'll be the only one to see it? and why buy thoughtful gifts when no one will be thinking of me like that? I mean my mom will but that's different. I think maybe I'm finally starting to see the holidays from the other side. You know the side I mean... the side of it from being alone. Like really alone. Is this what the holidays will be like in the years to come? Trying to find friends to intrude on?

I know I'll be spending Thanksgiving alone and that alone is very depressing. I was able to get the time off work but the flight for those four days is just too expensive to buy.

So I have to ask... when is it going to be my turn to announce special events? Huh universe!

Weekend Review

Any weekend that starts out with In-N-Out is going to be a good one.
I had a classic movie night with some friends. We watched this beauty. One of my friends had never seen it. Shocking!
I took a Saturday selfie. Yep. I used that word.
And then I dedicated an entire day to putting up my new theme tree. Clearly it's the beach. Full post coming soon!
Yes. Yes, I know it's only October. I don't care.

Sunday Social

I haven't participated in a Sunday Social for awhile and I really liked this week's questions so here we go...

1. What do you value most in life?
I value my mom and family the most. I'm really close to my mom and I don't know what I would do without her. She's the one person I have always been able to count on.

2. What do you think is the greatest invention in your life and why?
The internet. Hands down. I can remember being about 12 years old and getting on AOL for the first time. It was this crazy, new cool thing that was coming into every household. I would sit in front of the computer and wait for dial tone to finally go through and see my gray screen welcome me to AOL. Technology blossomed and has went from there. I had a pager, a nokia and then the surge of Apple products. It's how we communicate, gets news, stay in touch, conduct business etc.

3. What do you think is the secret to a good life?
Finding a job that you really enjoy and love to do. If you love what you do then you're happy while doing it ie, for the majority of your days. In turn that good mood can make you have a positive outlook on your life and situations. A happy life is a good life.

4. What would you most like to be remembered for when you're gone?
I'd like to be remembered as someone who was unique. I don't march to the beat of everyone else's drum. I'd like to be remembered for that. Plus the fact that I like to make people laugh.

5. What accomplishment in your life are you most proud of?
I would normally say, "Graduating college" but not anymore. I'm proud of being independent, picking up my life and moving 2,500 miles across the country and not knowing anyone. That's a move people. That's something to be proud of... at least I think so.

Five on Friday

1. The shutdown is over!! I can be paid! Woohoo! Excitement doesn't cover this. I was getting very nervous about paying my bills.

2. Let the online Christmas shopping commence.

3. Got my October Ipsy bag in the mail and it had this full size beauty in it...
It's Zoya in Mason. Once it's on it's kind of a purple/pink. I like it!

4. I'm really close to my mom and I can't wait to see her for the holiday. I've been feeling pretty lonely the last few days and she always makes me smile! We've been planning tons of fun things to do.

5. Have you seen all of the new Origami Owl products they've come out with recently? I am loving them. Check them out!

Theater Thursday

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing around here... it's Theater Thursday! This week's featured movie is a classic Halloween film, Scream.
Scream came out in 1996 and re-launched America's love of being scared at the movies. Scream stars Neve Campbell as Sidney Prescott, a high school senior who is on the verge of experiencing the anniversary of her mothers brutal murder. Her father has to leave town for business but she's left in good hands with her best friend Tatum (Rose McGowan) and her boyfriend Billy (Skeet Ulrich). Unfortunately, tragedy and terror strike their town when two teens are brutally murdered by a mysterious ghost face killer.
Sidney will have to face old demons and possibly new ones, while the town goes on lockdown until this ghost face killer is found. A mandatory curfew has students getting out early and without some parental guidance they decide to celebrate with throwing a party and begin to debate the "rules" to scary movies. Of course the party is being held by her boyfriend's best friend so Sidney and Tatum have to attend. Sidney is slightly on edge but is trying to be strong during this reminder of her mom's death.

Since tragedy has struck this town before the news media jumps on the town and brings along the famous face of news anchor Gail Weathers (Courtney Cox) to cover the story. Gail has been to this town before and has covered Sidney and her mother's death. Neither really wish to see each other again but Gail always wants the story. If Gail isn't careful she'll   she'll become the story as well.

Will Sidney get through this anniversary of her mothers death? Will the town survive more tragedy? Watch this classic to find out. There is now 4 Scream movies in total.

Glam Bags

Have you ever heard of Ipsy? I hadn't till about two months ago.

Ipsy is a subscription service that brings subscribers a beauty bag once a month via the mail. The glam bags come filled with deluxe samples and full size beauty products and the bag itself is a nice, reusable make up tote. The best thing about this service is that it's on $10.00 a month. No shipping fees! Each bag is tailored to each subscriber by taking a short quiz to find out your skin type, needs, likes/dislikes etc. You can also update your information anytime and after getting a bag... if you don't like a product you can let them know and they won't send you anything like it again.

I've been getting Ipsy glam bags for the past two months and they've contained some great products. My first bag contained: Noya Lip Balm (Full Size), Pixi Beauty Las Booster Mascara in blackest black (Sample size), MicaBeauty Eye Shadow in Bronze (Full size), Michael Todd Jojoba Charcoal Gentle Exfoliating Facial Scrub (Sample Size) and Naitini Straight Up color nail lacquer in Mai Tai (Full Size).

My second bag contained: Freeman Beauty: Facial Paper Mask trio (Full Size), Cailyn Cosmetics: Tinted Lip Balm (Full Size), Elizabeth Moss: It's so Big Volumizing Mascara, NYX Single Eye Shadow (Full Size) and Starlooks: Obsidian Kohl Eye Pencil (Full Size). As you can see, I got quite a few full size items in my second bag.

My third bag for October is on it's way to me right now and I can't wait to see what it contains. Each month Ipsy comes up with a little theme and tries to incorporate the best products inside it for you. I use to subscribe to Birchbox and now I'm wishing I would have made the switch to Ipsy a long time ago! If you love trying new things, getting some great high end products, seeing a few familiar items and getting a great bag each month then try out ipsy! I don't think you'll be disappointed. Use my link and give it a try! Don't get discouraged if you're on the wait list. I was for about a month but then I was in!
