It's Getting Hot Out Here

First of all... big shout out to my good friend Cara. 

We met in college and pledged the same sorority, in fact I was Cara's big sister. Sadly, when she graduated college it was time for her to head back to Texas and now I don't get much Cara time. Yesterday I got to talk to her and she mentioned she's been reading my blog. Well what do I do when I know my IRL (in real life) friends are reading? Give them a shout out!

Miss you Cara!!! I hope we get to see each other soon! 

In other news, summer is here and I bought a pool.

Yep, you read that right. Even though I'm moving, I went ahead and bought a pool. I don't know where you live but it's hot here. Like real hot. Which I'm not complaining one bit about because it's way better than all that rain we dealt with non.stop.for.months. However, I want to cool down and get tan the natural way. So it's pool time. 

Speaking of moving... I get the question about 30 times a day. When will I be moving? I will hopefully be moving at the end of August. That's all I can say right now but I promise to keep you all updated. 

Now I have to go out and run errands early so I can get me a full day of fun in the sun!!! Have a wonderful weekend everyone. I've got tons of vacation plans to fill you all in on come Monday!

I've noticed a trend in my photos. Anytime I'm caught for an impromptu photo or I'm by myself, I've reverted to giving the thumbs up or having the mouth of the south. I don't know when it started or how it got started but it's thriving. As you can see the most recent thumbs up occurred on the plane ride back from California. 

However, here's an example of the thumbs up circa 2008...

The mouth of south. I think that actually started when I was in college. I would get in this sorority photos and would have to be happy/perky all the time and sometimes the fake smiles would just show up.

I don't know about all of you but I had a fabulous weekend! I ushered in the month of May with a great weekend filled with laughs, friends and of course crazy shenanigans. 

This weekend Kristin, one of my closest and long time friend came into town. We met in college and went through greek rush together (that's actually how we met). We've been friends ever since and through all of the years we've definitely been involved in some crazy times together. So when I found out she was coming into town I knew it was going to be a good weekend. And good it was... this is us at my favorite local restaurant Fat Pattys. (Sorry for the quality, it was taken with my cell phone & sorry for those of you seeing it twice since I posted it that night to twitter @jmomiller)

If you ever happen to get to WV, then you must go to Fat Patty's. Best food ever. I usually have their All-American Club which consists of turkey, bacon, ham, 2 different cheeses and all the toppings you can think of! Yum!

Saturday, sadly I had to work so the shenanigans were put on hold for 8 hours. However, while I was at work I had the most random thing happen. I came out of one of the office doors and a woman I'd never seen before stops me. At first I thought, she was just going to ask me some random question. She asks me, "Do you watch Young and the Restless?" I was taken back by the question because I figured it would be a work related question so I had to think what that even was. I quickly remembered it was a soap opera and told her, "No" and then asked, "Why?"

The lady goes, "You look exactly like Victoria Newman! The only difference is her hair." So what do I do? I had to go straight to my computer and look her up. It took me a second to find her because apparently that's the characters name on the show and not the womans real name. I'm not gonna lie...I was disappointed. I don't think we look anything alike. Do you see a resemblance?

Anyways, back to the fun! So once I got off work we all headed to Coldstone because hello, who doesn't love some good ice cream on a hot day?!? Plus we did some shoe shopping. This is after we had enjoyed the sweet nectar of coldstone...

The 3rd person in this photo is our friend Erica (whom we also met in college and went through rush with, gotta love Phi Mu). I'm going to miss Erica because soon she's moving to Columbia, SC. She's headed down there this month to find an apartment and I actually might be making the road trip with her if I can swing it since I've got work, vacation and oh remember..NEW MEXICO bound! 

All in all it was a great weekend! This month is so full I can barely wait. I'm busting with excitement! I've got under two weeks of work left before all the fun begins. When I look at this months schedule of events I can't help but feel the whole spectrum of emotions! I can't wait for the new adventures! 

Life Long Friends

I have today and tomorrow off work. This makes me very excited. Since the weather here has been horrible I plan on staying inside all day. Yesterday it hailed for almost half an hour. Seriously, thought I was in the movie The Day After Tomorrow. It's rained for 3 days straight, then yesterday it stopped only to start hailing. Now it's seriously cold and extremely windy. Did I mention we're expecting snow? Oh, warm weather.... please hurry up and come back!

The other day Kelly from over at Kelly's Corner talked about her Sorority Days. That lead me to think about mine. I spent 3 years in Phi Mu (Beta Phi Chapter) and loved it. I always loved getting dressed up for the informal/formals, playing sports during greek week and working on the floats for homecoming. Most of all I loved getting to meet so many different people. Some of my strongest friendships came out of my greek life days. If you're still in college, you should definitely think about joining the greek community. If you're out of school, did you go greek?

Time to Cleanse the Chi

At the beginning of December one of my favorite people, who also happens to be one of my little sisters (Phi Mu), moved out of state. She graduated college and headed back to her home state of Texas. Major sad face! 

Before she left we were able to get together for one last lunch. During that time I asked her how she was getting all of her furniture, boxes, etc back to Texas. Her answer floored me. She said, "I'm not. I'm cleansing my chi. I gave away and sold most of my furniture and car." She literally was taking back what I considered to be the bare minimum: clothing, books, dvds and photographs. 

Since that day, I thought about what she said, I even looked up the meaning of Chi. Chi is the energy that flows within the body. When our Chi is blocked health problems can arise, as well as mood swings, excess stress and fatigue. 

When the new year came, I knew it was time for me to cleanse my chi. This week on my days off, I'll be tackling closets, boxes and un-necessary items. It's time I got rid of the clutter and got ride of things I no longer have any use for. Goodwill be on the lookout!

The Wheels Keep Turning

I finally uploaded the pictures off of my camera card! Remember this post? Where I talked about how close my hotel room was to the airport runways... yeah this is a view from the room.

(It may not look too close but guess what? When you have 747's and other large aircraft taking off and landing every 15 seconds...that's pretty loud.)

Now, on to other news. In my post-earth shattering event from yesterday, I've been trying to be non-stop busy. I've read 2 books in 1 day. Let me tell you, if you haven't read Tori Spelling's book sTori Spelling then you need to run, not walk to the nearest book store and buy it. It's HILARIOUS. Before you judge, I saw her in tons of movies and was a faithful fan of 90210 but I never really knew that much about her. One day years after the end of 90210 I saw a preview for a new reality show following none other than...Tori Spelling. I gave it a chance and thought it was interesting and funny. She seemed pretty normal for someone who grew up rolling in cash. Flash forward to Monday...I'm walking around aimlessly waiting to meet up with a friend and I see her book. 

I ended up buying it and currently I'm about half way through it. It's good, real good. Now I understand the feud with her mother. I can't wait to read her 2nd book & her mothers.

Besides my great book find, I got to meet up with my friend. This girl & I have known each other since our 2nd year of college. We were in the same sorority and have been friends ever since. We haven't got to see each other for about 2 years so yesterday was a special treat.

Good Eats & A Confession

Today I get to eat at one of my favorite restaurants: Fat Patty's! 

Sadly for all of you, it's a local restaurant. I would completely understand if you wanted to come visit though because the food is amazing! They give you giant food portions for super cheap and the place is amazing on service. Oh, did I mention it's just a really fun place to eat? Anyways, I'm meeting one of my fellow alumni sorority sisters there for lunch. Yay!

I heard from my hunny bunny boo yesterday! I was sooooo excited. I hadn't got to hear his voice in over a week (9 days to be exact). 

Ok, let's get serious here for a minute. I don't know if I've mentioned this before but I feel I need to come out and quit hiding it on here. I am a HUGE super fan of Britney Spears. Now wait...before you judge, I am not a "To Catch A Predator" type fan. I don't have her poster hanging on any of my walls. I'm not following her on twitter, I don't check her website, etc. I just actually, really like her. I think she can actually sing (when she's not lip synching) and she is a good dancer. I would like to point out that I was not a fair weather fan either. I was there rooting for her even as she shaved her head, went crazy with an umbrella, were drunk dancing on the vma's and did that horrible reality show called Chaotic with Kevin "the creeper" Federline. On my bad days, I'm guilty of getting in the car, cranking up her cd (shattered glass off the circus album = amazing) and letting all the hate out. So today...I salute you Britney Spears. I'm rooting for you to drop your dad from his strong hold in court this week!

Somethings Never Change...

Today, I joined some of my fellow Phi Mu sisters in the time old tradition known as Greek Sing. What is Greek Sing you ask? Greek Sing is an event where sororities and fraternities sing and dance to music, changing the lyrics to incorporate things relating to their group and other greek members. I've been an alumni since 2006, and this year I was determined NOT to miss it. Now over the past 2 years I haven't really participated in too many events. I always go to homecomings but that was about it. I'm trying to make a better effort at being an alumni supporter. This year their theme was...the 80's. Where...the Keith Albee.

Today as soon as I walked into the Keith Albee, I became surrounded by the Marshall Greek community. It brought back so many memories, good and bad. It brought back the hours and hours of practice, dancing, singing and preparing for greek sing (which for those of you who don't know...is the crown jewel of greek week). Participating in every sport even if had never played it before that day, wearing letters every day of the week, washing your number shirt each day before another event, staying up till the wee hours of the night making signs. Those are just a few of things that go on during greek week. I remember lots of stress and being tired. What I remember most though is the fun, crazy times that occurred during not only those greek weeks but throughout all my years in Phi Mu. 

So today as I sat there watching all of them, I couldn't help but realize that somethings will NEVER change. The people and places may be different but all the elements are still the same. The frats are still burning things, the girls are still calling them out in song and the love/hate relationships are still there as well. I'll never forget the people who were in my life during that time. When I think about it, I look back and smile.
