Theater Thursday

It's Thursday and that means...it's
THEATER THURSDAY!

This week we're flashing back to the 1980's with Adventures in Babysitting! Starring Elizabeth Shue (who became famous for the Karate Kid).

This movie always makes me smile and laugh. It has great backdrop as well...Chicago! One of my favorite cities!

If you haven't seen it, check it out. It's not a waste of time. Trust me! It revolves around Kris (Elizabeth Shue), un-expectantly babysitting a group of kids on a Friday night. They end up going into downtown Chicago without any money and any supervision.

Go check it out!

AA for this?

The first step to fixing a problem is to admit that you have a problem. Here it is....

I am addicted to Little Debbie Fudge Rounds.

Not even kidding. They are amazing. If Little Debbie was a dude, I would seriously consider leaving sweets and marrying LD. This was a phone conversation a few weeks ago between us.
Sweets : Hey sweetpea! What are you doing?
Me: Hey! Watching tv and eating a fudge round.
Sweets: Again? What number is that one?
Me: I don't know. The second or the third.
Sweets: Don't you think you eat those often?
Me: (Hm..I bet he's worried I'm getting fat) I guess so but their my only fatty snack food.
Sweets: Alright, just checking.

As you can tell we're so real with each other haha!

Working 9 to 5

Working 9 to 5....umm wait. I work 4:30am to 1:00pm, scratch that 9 to 5 haha. Some of you have been asking me how work is going. Well here's the answer: GREAT! My co-workers are amazing! They are so funny and friendly. They back me up in my decisions, they support me and they make the time pass so quickly.

The only hard part about work is getting up so early. I'm kind of getting use to it. The only think I'm not getting use to is missing my television shows that come on after I need to attempt sleep. Friday, I don't have to go in so early...which means I won't miss SouthLAnd. Is there anyone else out there watching that new show? It's GREAT! I love it! I hope it makes it and comes back in the fall. If you don't know, it's one of those mid season spring replacement shows.

Alright since I have to be at work in about 8 hours and I have to get up before then.....my comfy bed is calling my name!

Are we up or are we down?

I don't know about you, but a pet peeve of mine is when someone can be wishy washy. I mean really...make a decision and stick to it. Trust me...it's not that difficult.

Good news! I found out Matlock season 3 is coming out on dvd later this summer! Ok, ok...so I'm a nerd and LOVE watching Matlock. I think I've seen every episode at least 10 times. No joke!

I've seen a lot of people doing it. I think I'm going to do a questions blog here in the next few days. So keep your eyes open and start thinking about anything you may want to ask or know!

Funky Town

If you haven't noticed, I've been in a funk. Well you always have a choice. I chose to get my butt in gear and have FUN today!
I ended up going to my favorite place for lunch: Fat Pattys!!! Love it!

After lunch, I decided to do some extensive shopping and add some new items to my wardrobe. I found some really cute brown cargo, capri pants. I also found a really cute 3/4 sleeve sweater on sale that I can wear come next fall.

Have I mentioned that I'm addicted to Forever 21? We don't have an actual store in town so I have to order from their site. I had been eyeing a few things on there for over a week so I placed that order. I will soon be the owner of...

The only difference is I got the top in purple and not orange.
I hope everyone had a great Saturday...sorry for the funk everyone!!!
Mrs.GIJoe you are SO nice!!! That email helped me alot. Thank you!

Dear Deployment

Dear Deployment,
I hate you! That is all.
With hate.

Exhaustion & You

T.G.I.F.....
I am exhausted. When did I become an adult and how do I make this stop?!?! I'm still trying to get into a groove with my new job. Just when I think I have....they throw me for a loop. The back story is...for the past two weeks I've been working 8am-5pm or 7am-5pm. Well out of no where...today they go:
Them: "Oh we'll see you at 4:30am on Monday."
Me: Stunned face, "Wait...what?!?"
Them: "Oh yea, didn't we tell you that you'd be working for the next two weeks from 4:30am-1pm"
Me: "Um..no. No you did not"
I hope I can get some sleep come Sunday night!!!

Ladies, I want to say thank you very very much for your support over the past few weeks. There's been a few things going on and I would rather not talk about them on here. If you want to know...then ok email me and I'll tell you. Some of you know already.

I hope you all have a good weekend!!

Theater Thursday

That's right...it's Thursday, which means
Theater Thursday! This week I'm actually breaking away from the 80's trend and recommending You've Got Mail.

I personally LOVE this movie. I think it's so great. If you've ever watched Sleepless in Seattle then you know that Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are GREAT together!
It's so adorable...you find yourself rooting for who should end up together and how it should end. I can't give too much away....go watch it. You won't be disappointed! I promise! Am I ever wrong?!?!

PS: You get to see the really really old version of AOL as well!

American Idol

Does anyone else out there watch American Idol?  Well...I do! I know this is going to sound really bad and shallow...so yes I already know!

I love Matt G. I think he's a great singer and piano player. With that being said...everytime he sings I CAN NOT stop looking at that mole in the center of his forehead. It's like I'm Austin from Austin Powers and just want to scream MOLE!!! It sucks me in and I can't stop staring!!!!!
Am I the only one noticing it!?!?!?

Yay! I passed!

I don't think I told all of you but today I had to take three tests at work. They were VERY important tests and if you failed.....then you got fired. I am VERY excited to say, that not only did I pass all of my test, I tied for the top score. yay!

I never realized that government jobs have so many components to them. I've went through almost two weeks of Orientation. Now I have to do on the job training (OJT). With this job OJT can last anywhere from 2 weeks to a over a month. At least I get to go back to my hometown for OJT. I'm tired of living out of a suitcase and being alone in the hotel!

I hope everyone is having a fabulous Tuesday! I'm going to spend the evening looking for somewhere awesome to go on my 16 days of vacation. I love Vegas so I may go there but I'm thinking tropical...hmm? Maybe the Caribbean!

Monday, April 20, 2009

So....

First of all I want to thank all of you for your suggestions yesterday!

However, that being said. There's been a few developments. It turns out we will not be getting to go on my vacation. I can't go into details right now but I'll keep you posted.

It's really hard for me to talk about right now. I feel devastated. I feel like one of those baby tooth's you have that hangs there by a string on the verge of falling out yet it's hanging by the thread...yet you know it's going to fall..

The Cheese stands alone.

The Old Days

Today I was doing some spring cleaning and came across a box of old photos. Inside the box, I found pictures from when I was around the age 13. I don't know about you, but almost everyone I know got taken to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for vacation at least once as a kid.

Inevitable while we were there, we would see one of those "Old Timey" photo shops. It never failed, every year we would go inside, strip down half our clothing and become either "women of the night" or "proper" ladies. This was the last "Old Timey" photo we took on vacation. This is from when I was about 14....I think. I know I was in middle school still.

(Obviously we became women of the night...that time)

Have any of you ever done these photos? Or was I the only one that use to get dragged down to TN and tricked into taking Old photos with the family?

Theater Thursday

That's right folks...it's
Theater Thursday! Since you all know I'm a huge 80's movie buff this weeks film is... Coming to America!

This is by far one of Eddie Murphy's best films. It's from his comedic genius days of the mid 1980's. It's got Romance, it's got comedy and even a little action. The question you have to ask yourself.... who doesn't want to see Eddie Murphy battle Arseno Hall with a mop broom for fun?!? This was also a dry run for Eddie Murphy on playing multiple roles in the same movie. Check it out...you won't be disappointed.

Now I always do a 2nd choice for those of you who don't dig the 80's genre of movies. So this weeks non 80's movie is...Australia!
When I first saw the previews for this movie I thought...BOO boring!!! Another sappy love movie involving a cowboy. NO! This movie was and is really good. Not to mention the beautiful backdrop of the Australian outback! Check it out. It's pretty good!
Hope everyone is having a great Thursday!! Tomorrow starts the weekend! Enjoy it!

A mini rant, military boys and fun times

Ok, first of all I don't think I posted any pictures from Easter??!?! Here's one with me & my Easter basket. That's right my mom, made me one!!!
Now for the funny news. The hotel that I've been staying in all this week has added new guests. When I say guest. I mean sold this joint out to every single person who works for the government or is apart of the military. I walked out of my room this morning to find about 20 guys from the Coast Guard eating breakfast. I come back from work this evening and find Veteran's about 40 of them eating dinner. They ranged from Vietnam vets to Iraq ones. They were too funny and VERY drunk! I guess they were making up for all the lost time.

I weep for these children...

About a week ago, I was sitting at home on a Tuesday evening with nothing to do. I had already watched my usual shows being: Dancing with the Stars and American Idol. So it was 10pm and I was roaming the channels. I came across a show on TLC called Toddlers & Tiaras

First of all...Oh.My.God! It was like a bad car wreck you just couldn't look away from. I couldn't stop watching. I felt horrible for some of these kids. CLEARLY some of them did NOT want to be there. It was clear the mothers had a major hand in their children being there.
I have no problem with the natural girl pageants. However..the "glitz" pageants...NO! This is where they have them wear fake hair pieces, false eye lashes, fake teeth, spray tans. Who spray tans a 5 year old?!?!?!
These moms need mental help. I can tell most of them were overweight kids who never did pageants and clearly wanted to.
Now, don't get me wrong I have no problem with pageants but there's always a line and in this show it was clearly getting crossed.

First Days & Happy Smiles

Today was my first day on the new job. This morning when I crawled out of bed at 5:30a.m. I really wondered "Wow, how am I going to make it through the day?!?" I was pretty nervous. I find first days on a new job to be like the first days of school. You plan an outfit. You never know who you're going to see and your not 100% sure what you're going to be doing.

Once I got to work and was about half way through the day I knew it was going to be good. Tomorrow will be different today because we're doing different things. I actually smiled and enjoyed my work. I think I'm really going to love this job. Oh, someone asked me what type of job was it. It's a government job. I work for the Department of Homeland Security.
Remember the awesome hotel I talked about staying in. Here's a picture of what the inside looks like.... It opens up into this huge atrium. I'll take more pictures later.

Easter was really good! I got a great Easter basket from my mother that included an iflip. I was very excited. Being a fat kid at heart...I ate way too much ham lol.
Hope you're all well!

And the winner is....

The Cavalier King Charles!!!!! Too adorable!!! Sorry, Mr. Wiener Dog....
I figure I'll get him/her in a few weeks maybe a month or two. Basically, as soon as I can figure out my work schedule. Thanks everyone for giving your input. I had no idea that wiener dogs can be a little temperamental. I had no idea!

The weather here is absolutely beautiful today! I'm shocked! Last night I went to bed to doom and gloom. It was pouring buckets of rain and rolling thunder. We even had miniature golf ball size hail. So the egg hunt for tomorrow is DEFINITELY on! I was pretty excited because I found a ton of camouflage eggs to fill with candy. Let's just hope the kids can find them. Haha!

I'm pretty nervous for Monday! I start my new job...ekkkk! I have two weeks of orientation/training. I'm not 100% sure of everything that I'll be doing but so far they've been really nice. They've probably called me about 5 times making sure I got my travel info and schedules. The training is about an hour from where I live, so they offered to put me up in a hotel to cut out the driving back and forth. Let me tell you...... I was shocked when they sent me my hotel information. Are you sitting for this?? I have a suite!!! A 2 room suite! It's a really nice hotel and apparently they give me per diem for food! These government jobs are awesome! I don't know what I was thinking before?!? I should have started working for the man a long time ago!

Alright everyone, I hope you're having an excellent weekend and have a great Easter tomorrow!

Dogs & Pirates. Oh my!

Ok, on to the dogs. I've narrowed it down to two choices. I don't know which one...their both so cute!!! Help me decide between a miniature dachshund aka a wiener dog or a King Charles Cavalier. I just can't decide!!!

Finally, pirates. Ok....is it just me or has everyone noticed over the past couple of months the amount of REAL pirates on the news?!?! What is up with these people? Were they low class/high class criminals sitting at home watching Pirates of the Caribbean and decided that's what they wanted to do? I think they were criminals who just had too much time on their hands. I mean really who becomes a pirate? Get a job or at least become a house burglar. There's no need to be going around on a boat terrorizing cruise ships and holding people hostage for ransoms....boo.

I hope everyone has a Happy Easter!!! Good Friday my friends!

Theater Thursday

I've decided to make Thursdays: Theater Thursday!
I'm an avid fan of movies. My favorite category of movies is cheesy 80's movies/chick flicks. This week I've decided to feature: Clue! Circa 1985. I'm sure many of you have seen it but if you haven't...check it out! I use to love playing the board game as a child. When I first saw this movie it made me smile and think of all the times I would play the game with family and friends.
If you haven't seen this movie or even if you have, make sure you watch the edition that features the alternative endings. Some of them are funny! My favorite character....Mr.Green.

If your not into 80's movies or chick flicks, check out...
Jarhead. Now before you start criticizing, let me explain myself. I think every person who's dating/engaged/married to someone in the military should watch it. I have to confess I did NOT have any interest in EVER seeing this movie. I only watched it because sweets asked me to. He kept on me and on me about watching it. Everyday when he called one of the first things out of his mouth would be, "Did you watch that movie I told you to get?" I would respond, "No!" One day I finally asked him, "Why do you want me to watch it so bad?" and he said he thought it would give me more of an idea what it's like over there on a day to day basis. So finally I gave in, when out, bought it and proceeded to watch it.

In the beginning it wasn't too hard to watch but once it got more into it, it was VERY hard to watch. There were parts that I cringed at. So WARNING it's not for the faint of heart. Once I watched it, I chewed Matt out. I couldn't believe he suggested it. The more I got to thinking about it though, I'm glad I did watch it. So if you think you can handle it....check it out.

Easter's on it's way.

I don't know why, but every year when Easter rolls around, I always get the biggest laugh out of this photo. It never fails to make me smile or laugh out loud.

I can't believe Easter is this weekend. It's snuck up on me. I've been seeing the candy it the stores for weeks but it donned on me today that Easter is this Sunday!

This weekend is also the weekend two years ago my uncle Jonathan married Megan. I honestly never thought that he would get married. He just didn't seem like he'd be that type of person. I guess when you find the one anything can happen. Here's a picture of them on their wedding day.

Such a cute couple. I don't think the smiles left their faces that whole day. Infact...I'm pretty for sure they're still smiling. Congrats on the 2 year mark!

Somethings Never Change...

Today, I joined some of my fellow Phi Mu sisters in the time old tradition known as Greek Sing. What is Greek Sing you ask? Greek Sing is an event where sororities and fraternities sing and dance to music, changing the lyrics to incorporate things relating to their group and other greek members. I've been an alumni since 2006, and this year I was determined NOT to miss it. Now over the past 2 years I haven't really participated in too many events. I always go to homecomings but that was about it. I'm trying to make a better effort at being an alumni supporter. This year their theme was...the 80's. Where...the Keith Albee.

Today as soon as I walked into the Keith Albee, I became surrounded by the Marshall Greek community. It brought back so many memories, good and bad. It brought back the hours and hours of practice, dancing, singing and preparing for greek sing (which for those of you who don't know...is the crown jewel of greek week). Participating in every sport even if had never played it before that day, wearing letters every day of the week, washing your number shirt each day before another event, staying up till the wee hours of the night making signs. Those are just a few of things that go on during greek week. I remember lots of stress and being tired. What I remember most though is the fun, crazy times that occurred during not only those greek weeks but throughout all my years in Phi Mu.

So today as I sat there watching all of them, I couldn't help but realize that somethings will NEVER change. The people and places may be different but all the elements are still the same. The frats are still burning things, the girls are still calling them out in song and the love/hate relationships are still there as well. I'll never forget the people who were in my life during that time. When I think about it, I look back and smile.

New Job & R&R

As each day passes, I get closer and closer to the things that make me smile....

I'm starting my new job, in about 10 days. I'm really looking forward to it. I'm actually putting my degree to use and will be doing something in that field. Plus, hello... government benefits! I got really good news from this yesterday. I was originally going to drive back and forth everyday from Huntington to Charleston but they offered to reserve a room at the Marriott for me. Yay! Now I won't have to get up so early and I won't have to make the hour drive twice a day. I'll come home on the weekends. It's only two weeks so it shouldn't be that bad.

Ahhh, I'm so ready for me to be in the car on the way to vacation. I pray that everything works out. I've been making deals with God everyday haha. You know you've done that too! I try not to worry about it but it's so important not to. I'll find myself sitting around watching tv, but not really watching it. I start thinking about everything going on in my life and completely forget what I'm suppose to be watching... oops.

Alright, I need to actually start my day and get things done. Have fun!
