What I'm Watching

There seems to be an abundance of great television shows out right now. Between finding time to watch the new ones, staying current on favorite shows and finishing series of ones ending it's hard sometimes to know what to really watch. Below are a few of the new shows out there, that are worth taking the time to watch. Here's three new shows that I think you should invest in...

Altered Carbon

You might recognize the lead actor in the new Netflix show, Altered Carbon. He was previously in a famous Netflix show called The Killing. I'm about 7 episodes in on his new show Altered Carbon and I'm really enjoying it. It has an original story line and it leaves you guessing. The story is set 300 years into the future, our society has developed new technology that makes death no longer something permanent. They've found a way to make bodies aka sleeves interchangeable. You can be plugged into anyone and keep living forever. When a very rich and powerful man is murdered but continues to live because of his backup data, he wants to know who and why. That's when he brings back a hired gun to find answers. However, the hired gun doesn't want to be brought back and he doesn't want to do anyone else's bidding.

MindHunter

I burned through season one on Netflix. Now I'm impatiently waiting for season two. I love all things true crime (probably because I majored in Criminal Justice) and real life stories brought to the screen. Set in the late 1970s, two FBI Agents go out in the field to research why serial killers behave the way that they do. They hope to find out the root of what causes people to commit these acts in the hopes of being able to predict movement and stop murders from happening. They follow real life cases that you can research and look up. Since a lot of the criminals and crimes they follow took place in California, they focused several episodes on people who are located near where I live today. It's very interesting to go and look up the real information and compare it to the show.

If you like true crime and shows like this one, then I highly recommend it!

9-1-1

I usually don't watch a lot of shows currently on cable television. I'm always scared their going to cancel them (which usually happens when I really like something). So when my husband started recording this show and we started watching it, I got nervous because I like it. 9-1-1 isn't like all of those other fire and cop shows out there (I'm looking at you Chicago series). This one takes a fresh approach on emergency situations. It shows how a 9-1-1 dispatcher can play a big part in emergencies. It shows how fire and police work together and it shows the personal lives of the men and women behind the uniform. This show is currently in it's first season on FOX and I'm really hoping it doesn't get the ax at the end of the spring. Give it a watch! It's worth an hour of your time.

Then there's he shows that I'm staying current on. These shows are in different seasons and I'm still loving them and I'm anxiously awaiting a few to return with a new season...

What are you watching? Do you have any recommendations? Let me know if there's a new show out there that I should be watching.

Valentines Day Lux List

Valentine's Day is right around the corner! While I'll be fine with receiving a card with a nice note in it, I thought I'd share some luxury gift ideas. Granted, I would love to receive any of these gifts but with the baby on the way any day, I think we probably won't splurge that much this time around.

The first gift idea... a trip to Oahu to stay at the Royal Hawaiian. While we've been to Hawaii, we went to the big island. I have never been to Oahu and I would love to stay at the Royal Hawaiian. This is where they filmed Gidget Goes Hawaiian and I have loved that movie since growing up. The hotel is the scene of the entire movie and it was actually filmed there.

I mean really... who would turn down a gift of a trip to paradise?

The next luxury gift most people wouldn't snub their nose at... a Louis Vuitton handbag. This particular bag is the Siena PM. It's got a removable cross body strap so you pick how you want to carry it. Sling it over your body or carry it by the handles. Personally, this is my favorite LV print.

La Fleur Bouquets- The Petite Square

Have you seen these flower arrangements? They come in some pretty wild colors. They also last an entire year! These are real flowers! I love the idea of a mixed box of baby blue and white roses. Everyone who ever gets these always raves about how amazing they are and that they actually last an entire year. Granted, you can't remove them from the box if you want them to live!

Quality workout gear. These Adidas Alpha Bounce EM Running Sneaker and the Nike Sportswear Rally Fleece Pants. Both of these can be worn year round and will keep you looking stylish while getting your sweat on.

An extra long weekend in Pigeon Forge/ Gatlinburg Tennessee because duh... it's my favorite place!
It's been awhile since I've been there any other month besides May, June or November. Trust me, I'll take a trip a trip there anytime someone wants to give me one. I love that area and one day we will retire there.

These are just a few of the luxury gifts, that any girl could want.

Where was the Tooth Fairy?

My pregnancy has been no joke. From the never ending morning sickness, to the massive 3rd trimester nose bleeds to the swelling in my hands and feet. It just hasn't really given me a break. Then in the second trimester, I had the unthinkable happen. One of my wisdom teeth broke off in half. Many years ago, when all of my wisdom teeth came in, I was told that I was the 1 in a 1000 that they grew in perfectly. Then about 10 years ago, I got a tiny cavity in the one located on the top/right side of my face.

At the time, my dentist who I had gone to for years said, "No problem! Let's just put a little filling in it." So that's what we did! And honesty, I had never had another problem with it. Well until about 4 months ago. I'm driving home from work and having a late evening hair appointment. I go to spit out a piece of gum and I'm like wow, my tooth feels different when I ran my tongue across it. I run my tongue across it again and I know. Something is very different and wrong with my tooth. Cue immediate freak out.

It's after 7:00 p.m. on a weekday and I call the dentist. All the phone does is ring and ring and ring. After about the 15th ring, I can finally leave a frantic message of please call me immediately because I have a dental emergency. I'm left to freak out all night. I think, I asked everyone I knew to look into my mouth and tell me what my tooth looks like. We even tried to fit an iPhone into my mouth to get a good look at it. We just weren't for sure how bad the damage was and we weren't going to know till I could get in to the dentist.

Thankfully, the next morning the dentist called me. I explained what was going on with my tooth and that I was 6 months pregnant. They asked me if I had my letter from the doctor that said I could see a dentist. Let me tell you what, I was so happy to have that letter from the first OBGYN appointment. I never had even thought I would need it. Well I'm glad I kept it in the folder because it outlined what they were and weren't allowed to do. So they set an appointment for the next day. They were sorry but they just couldn't see me till the next day.

This was also going into a holiday weekend and it was now Thursday. We were suppose to leave town and here I was with a broken wisdom tooth trying to figure out if it was going to break off even more or if it was going to start sending serious pain throughout the rest of my face. I went to the appointment and I was hoping and praying they could salvage the tooth. I figured they could just cap it until after I had given birth. The dentist does the xrays and I'm told, there's no way they can save the tooth. Apparently in those 10 years, debris had started to get under the filling and it had decayed the tooth hence why it broke off (which I pin pointed to earlier in that day while I was eating a grilled cheese).

They wanted to pull it immediately.

WHAT? NO! I'm going out of town. So I got a stay of execution till the following Wednesday.

They had pre-warned me due to my pregnancy and medication restrictions that I would be numbed but without the epinephrine. The only way I can describe that is like someone basically slapping orajel on your face and then ripping the tooth out. So when Wednesday rolled around my anxiety was at an all time high. I was so scared because I have never had to have a tooth pulled nor had I ever had any dental work done without serious numbing and medication.

Thankfully, the tooth didn't break off as they were pulling it. They get it out within about 5 minutes and got it filled with gauze. They gave me tons of instructions and told me to not spit (which was going to be hard since I was vomiting everyday thanks to morning sickness) to try to avoid dry socket. Over the next few days, the pain sucked. I couldn't take anything stronger than a Tylenol and I didn't even really want to do that because I've been trying to not take anything what so ever while being pregnant.

I was so paranoid about getting dry socket, I got on amazon and bought one of those little dentist mirrors that go in your mouth so I could check the hole. Needless to say, I survived and it was probably the worst experience due to the no pain meds.

Our Holiday/Maternity Photos

I was strictly against doing a full on maternity photo session. This is the heaviest I have ever been in my life so I wasn't too excited to document it in a ton of photographs. When the holidays rolled around, I had been wanting to take photos for our Christmas card. While our photographer who did our wedding wasn't available to do them in time to use for our Christmas card, he was able to do it before the holiday. We turned it into a holiday/maternity shoot.

My husband has been thrilled this entire time that we are having a baby and he was so excited to do these photos and be included.

I think they turned out really nice! We had gotten engaged 3 years earlier at the Capitol Christmas tree so it was very fitting that we returned for these photos. We got lucky that it wasn't raining and wasn't terribly cold considering this was in the middle of December.
