Five On Friday

1. When we moved into the new house we bought a new bed. We had been sleeping on a full and upgraded to a queen. I personally detest king size beds. I think their entirely too big and unnecessary. I love the look of huge, oversize upholstered furniture so when we saw this beauty we were sold.

2. We had our first guests over to the house this past weekend and they brought us a house plant. I love Orchids so I was excited to get this mini one. Now let's just hope I can keep it alive.

3. Speaking of plants I have been obsessed with hydrangeas for the past two weeks. They have been in full bloom all over downtown so when I'm walking around on my lunch and breaks I've seen them in tons of colors. These purple ones are my favorite but I really like the blue ones that I've seen.

4. I really want these shoes...

Their by Betsy Johnson and their suede. I've always wanted a blue suede shoe from the moment I heard Elvis sing about them. I don't know for what reason but I've never actually owned a pair. I think it's time to finally get a pair, don't you?

5. This movie and it's quotes will never get old...

Weekend Review

This past weekend I got everything at my house in place. When I came back to California from being in West Virginia for the holidays, I knew I wanted to finally bite the bullet and buy a new couch. I had been researching and looking online and in ads for weeks. I knew that I wanted a gray sectional and in microfiber. A few days before I had left for WV, I got an ad in the mail that had a perfect one in it. I looked it up online in West Virginia and loved it. I contacted the store to see if they had it in the style that I wanted and they did for a reasonable price.

Last week, I finally went to the store, found the couch, sat down on it and loved it. I bought it right then and had to wait the week for it to be delivered.
I love how it ended up looking in my living room. Now I just want to find a new area rug that will bring my red bucket chairs to my gray couch. The hunt is on! I think I can find one fairly soon but we shall see. I'm saving my money for vacations.

The next new piece of furniture I got was a foyer table. For Christmas I was gifted the Khloe Foyer table from World Market. I had been wanting this table for over a year. I tried to buy it myself a few months ago but they were sold out in store and I was so worried they were going to discontinue it before I could get it. So when I got it for the holiday, I was pretty excited.

The next thing that had to get set up was my treadmill. Getting the treadmill should be a short story but it isn't. See... here's what happened, Santa bought me a treadmill but since I went back to West Virginia for Christmas it had to be purchased and shipped after Christmas since I needed it to be sent to California. Well the treadmill was ordered and I sat at home all day waiting on it to come like it was suppose to. Long story short, I called UPS and they said they had never received the package. A treadmill is hard to lose. So we contacted Amazon and they basically said, OH YEAH we didn't tell you but it sold out and we don't have one to fulfill your order so we've cancelled it and we're going to give you the money back. Gee thanks.

So the search for a new treadmill continued. We found one and placed the order. It would arrive in 3-4 days. The next day a treadmill shows up.... the one that they said they didn't have to fulfill the first order. Umm..... what the heck? So I waited around and two days later my second treadmill showed up. I put that one together and now it's rocking! And when I say, "I" put it together, I really mean I made Beezy put it together for me while I watched.
I've already used it once and let me tell you a manual treadmill is no joke. You are always at an incline and it's your own legs that propel the belt. I'm tired from just saying all that. Sheesh! But it's about working on my fitness so that's what I'm doing. I ended the weekend by watching the Sacramento Kings beat the Orlando Magic with none other than Beezy. Maybe next year I'll get my own season tickets so he can take someone else instead of me hijacking his tickets all year long. Ha!
How was your weekend?

Weekend Update

I feel every weekend should start out with good food. If you burn the bacon that's an omen to how the weekend can go. Clearly I didn't burn the bacon...
When I was up in Crescent City, I shopped at an antique/vintage place called Sylvia's Attic. I found a great wall shelf that I couldn't pass up...
Can you believe I got this vintage wood, wall shelf for the bargain price of $85.00?! It was a steal because I've been eyeing these online and in other shops. It was in mint condition too which is something that doesn't happen often. After much debate and lots of measuring, I got it hung up on one of my walls.
Now I just have to figure out what I want to display on it.

Incidentally the store in Crescent City is the place where I found all of those old YA books that I can't wait to read. Now I just need to find more time in the day. Speaking of time, I saw this the other day and it made me laugh...

If only we all had personal assistants, maids, etc. I feel I do a pretty good job on time management considering I do everything on my own. #Firstworldproblem

Over the weekend, I was also able to complete one of my 30 Before 30 things on my list. So that post will be coming soon! Have a great Monday!

The Final Birthday Recap!

On my actual Birthday my mom had to fly back to West Virginia. We spent the day around Sacramento. I woke up to a Happy Birthday Banner...
We started the day by going to breakfast at Brookfields. My mom said that I shouldn't have to make anything on my birthday so we headed there. I had planned to make waffles for her since she sent me that waffle maker a month ago.
We then went vintage shopping, where I found a great coffee table and two end tables that go great with my other vintage furniture. They also go great with my floors in the living room.
Once we got back from shopping my mom made me some blondies. I'm not a big frosting person so cake has never really been my major want on birthdays. The last couple of years my mom has made me these since they are some of my favorites.
Then we spent the rest of the day watching episodes of the old Mission Impossible show. We've been watching this show for years from the start to finish and we've only got a few episodes left. I don't know what show we'll start once we finish watching this one together. Sadly that evening my mom had to get on her flight. I didn't want her to go. I can't wait to see her again.

Weekend Review

I went into the weekend with absolutely no plans. I got bored pretty quickly. What do you do when you get bored and want to re-do your bedroom in your new home? Oh... you go shopping! I bought these little beauties which I'll be using as night stands. I love the mirror drawers.
I'm going for an all white theme except for the bedding, which is full of color. I bought new white lamps, new white frames, got curtains up, moved furniture out of the room and have a few more plans in mind. It's a work in progress. I'm hoping I will be able to finish this month. Maybe I'll count it as my February project. When I get it all done I'll share it! I'm lusting after this  headboard but it's so expensive!
After I got done working on redecorating, I ate tons of candy that my mom gave me for Valentines Day and baked blonde bars and chocolate chip muffins for my coworkers.

I also added this film poster to my movie room collection....
I also made myself an Origami Owl locket. I had been so busy helping others make theirs I had never had time to sit and do my own. Now I've got mine and I'm sporting it all over town! If you've never heard of Origami Owl or you already love it, go to my site  and check it out! All you have to do is log in/create an account and you'll be able to add to a shopping cart.
I've got the small watch gear, a hummingbird, an airplane, my birthstone which is pink and pearl. I've got a diamond stone, a movie camera, my initial and a vintage typewriter. I also have an elephant charm but I guess I hadn't put it inside yet when I had taken the photo. Anyways, that was my weekend! How was yours?

The Case of the Missing Recliner

As you'll recall, last weekend I bought some retro, vintage furniture. My living room isn't that big and with the addition of the sectional and the two chairs that I also purchased, I ran out of room fast.

I had a recliner that had obviously seen better days. It looked almost exactly like the one in the above photo plus or minus a few tiny drops of drink stains. Basically, a good deep cleaning and some screw tightening and you'd have a great recliner. Well.... with getting the furniture, I decided it was time for the recliner to get a new home.

On the day that we moved in the vintage sectional and chairs, we moved the recliner out onto the porch. It was misting rain and since I didn't want the recliner to get ruined, we placed a clear, plastic drop sheet over it. That was on Saturday. Well come Sunday morning, I started letting every single person know that I had a recliner up for grabs. As in FREE!

Everyone at my work and a few neighbors got offered this chair. It was a, "first one there to get it, it's theirs" stance. A few people were interested and a co-worker who just moved said that she'd take it. Fast forward to Tuesday evening.

I go out for something and the recliner is gone. I never heard anyone come onto the porch to get it. Didn't hear a truck back up to my steps... nothing. So then I start to wonder who I know that got it. The girl from work who was suppose to be by to pick it up never text me like she said she would before showing up. I texted another guy from work, asking him if he picked it up and he said no.

Soooo... I'm thinking that some random person that I do not know, saw it on the porch and decided to make it theirs. However, I had an umbrella on my porch and it was/is still there. If you're going to steal something that you don't know is already being given away as free, why wouldn't you just go all out and take the umbrella too? Anyways, I have no idea who got it but it's gone and that's all I'm glad about!

A Vintage Weekend

Earlier last week, I was sitting at work and surfing the internet while eating lunch. I decided to stumble upon one of the many vintage shops that I've been in before to see some of their current items. And to quote Rachel Zoe, that's when "I died".

I saw a couch that I knew I had to have. I know, I know. I'm moving to California but the price was just right. Plus vintage stuff is a one in a million find. You could see it again somewhere else or you could never see it again ever. I didn't want to be kicking myself for years to come so I called them up and they still had it in the store. It was totally meant to be. Minus the fact that the store was 280 miles away from me and that I don't own a truck.

I got a cargo van and made the drive together this weekend. The store was nice enough to put a hold on it for me and when I got there it was waiting for me!
At the Nostalgia Store
The three piece sectional is great! It can be set up a few different ways and it was in almost mint condition. While I was at the store, I ended up getting a few more items. I mean have van, will fill. Right? I saw two great egg chairs so I scooped them us as well.
You can't really see it from the iphone photo, but their velvet and in a wine color. They also have a faint swirl pattern on the fabric. I'll have to take a better picture. I also got this super retro, carry on luggage piece.
I love it! I can't wait to carry it! Right now it smells like old lady on the inside of it but I figure it'll air out before my next trip.

Everything was in such great condition and the people at Nostalgia in Tennessee were so nice to do business with. If you're ever in their area, I highly suggest stopping in!
