An Update On Moving to California

If you missed my last update about moving in September, you can see that post here .

So I haven't wrote anything about moving to California since September 2011. I got some news yesterday so I figured it was time for an update.

As of next week, I will have been officially on the transfer list for a year. Let me catch you up on what's been going on since my last update from September.

In September after I was told that I was sitting in the 5th position on the wait list I felt defeated. At that point I had been waiting, hoping and wishing to get my transfer for 7 months. Literally a few days later after being told of my spot on the wait list a different job position became open. I applied and hoped that I'd hear something on it and maybe then I wouldn't have to only rely on getting the transfer.

I didn't hear anything for months. Then at the beginning of December I got a call telling me that I had made the best qualified list and that they wanted to interview me for the job that I had applied for back in September. I was so happy. An interview! In my mind that was at least getting me another step closer to a job that I wanted and getting me out to California.

The interview came and I thought I did really well. It included a presentation and I felt really comfortable with my performance and how I answered the questions. Two weeks later, the week before Christmas, I got the dreaded call that they had decided to hire someone else for the position. I cried all the way home from work. I was devastated. I really thought that, that was going to be it for me and that I was going to get it and make it to California.

The only good news that I had to go on was that when I was told that I didn't get that position, that they really liked me and that they had another going to open another a month later. So when January rolled around they had another position open. I of course applied. Then I heard nothing. Well they opened it a third time and I've applied again.

Yesterday, I got news. I am now at the top of the wait list. They don't know when their going to pull from the list but I'm at least the first person on it! AND I'm still in the running for that other position, which closes in the middle of March. They offered me a part time spot but I can't afford to drop down from full time. I would struggle so much financially that it just isn't feasible.

So again... I sit and I wait. I know it's going to happen eventually. I just have to hang in there. Good thoughts, blessings, well wishes, birthday wishes, wishbone wishes, prayers... really any good thoughts are appreciated.

The King of all Media

Ok, so hear me out on this one.

At Christmas I was given Sirius XM Radio for my car. I was beyond happy because that's what I had asked Santa for. It came with a subscription package and from the moment I turned it on, I was excited about being the car. Then it came time for me to set my 5 favorite channels and since there's over 150 channels it made it a hard decision. These are my favorites:
1. Pop2K
2. Kiis Los Angeles
3. Howard Stern 100
4. Elvis Radio
5. 90's on 9
Of course I listen to other stations like The Blend, Z100, The Love Channel and more but there was one that I can't help but always see what's going on it....
Howard Stern on Howard 100. Have you heard him on the radio? Have you seen him on television? I know a lot of people have very strong opinions about him but personally.... I like him. I started listening to his show every morning on the way to work and then catching the repeats later in the day. Let me tell you, he's hilarious. He's self deprecating. He doesn't think of himself about others, he's got a ton of cash (I mean literally I bet he could burn cash at night to stay warm) but you'd never know it from the way he interacts with people.

I also like the fact that besides covering his daily life he also covers the news and has celebrities come on the show. This man can get anyone to talk about what they least want to talk about and for most of the celebrities it's their sex life or how they screwed something up with drugs, drinking or other idiot decisions.
Then there's his whole crew including Robin Quivers (who's the voice of reason), Gary, Ronnie the limo driver and a few more. They add a lot to the show and you can tell from the banter than Howard and all of them have a great time doing the show.

I've become so interested in them that I bought the dvd Private Parts and watched it for the first time a week ago. I thought it was really good, now if he'd do another movie that would be great. So much has happened in his life since that movie came out (1997). And I have to admit, I'm thinking about even starting to watch America's Got Talent just because he's the new judge on there this season. I've never seen the show but he's been talking about the auditions a lot on the show.

Anyways, if you've never listened to Howard and you've got Sirius XM, check him out! Also if you've got Sirius xm radio, what channels do you mostly listen to?

The Oscars

I have always loved watching the Academy Awards. I love seeing celebrities get all dressed up and walk the red carpet. I love to see their dresses and jewels. I like to watch the awards be passed out and hear their speeches. This year one of my favorite comedians and all time hosts was back, Billy Crystal!
I love him! I'm so glad he was back this year! I think he did the Oscar's proud! He looked very dapper in his suit too! I like that word, dapper... I need to start using that more. I also think that these following ladies looked fabulous!

Now I love Emma Stone, don't get me wrong but I was not loving that bow. I thought she looked great but if I was there and had a pair of scissors, I would have cut that thing off.

My favorite win of the night was definitely Christopher Plummer! I mean hello he was the Von Trap family leader!! He was in The Sound of Music for goodness sake! I'm happy that he won.

Theater Thursday

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing around these parts... It's Theater Thursday! This weeks featured movie is none other than, The Bodyguard
Since the untimely death of Whitney Houston, I have been thinking about this movie. Before her death it was a classic and after her death it is still a classic. Not only is the story a good one but the soundtrack was even better. Whitney gave us some of her greatest songs during this movie.

If you've never seen The Bodyguard, let me give you a little plot background. Kevin Costner stars and Frank Farmer, a for hire bodyguard who use to guard the President. When celebrity Rachel Mariner (Whitney Houston) starts to receive death threats they call upon Frank's services. Unbeknownst to Frank, Rachel actually isn't aware that someone is out there hunting her. He's brought in by someone on her team. Not wanting to give an inch, Rachel fights Frank the entire way on his security plans.

Throughout this entire time, she begins to like Frank and starts to fall for him a little bit. At the same time her killer is getting closer and closer to her. Once she realizes that someone is trying to kill her she leans on Frank more than ever.

Theater Thursday

It's Theater Thursday! This week is dedicated to the upcoming holiday... Valentine's Day! This week's featured holiday movie is, Striptease.
Let me preface this post by saying that I think Demi Moore is great and that I wish her the best in her recovery.

Striptease follows Demi Moore as Erin Grant, once was an FBI secretary but who is now an exotic dancer. Erin is a single mother who lost custody of her daughter. Wanting to appeal the verdict and regain custody of her little girl, she gets a job to make the money she'll need. One night at the "dance club" she sees a very famous face in the crowd, congressman David Dilbeck (Burt Reynolds).

The Congressman instantly becomes smitten with Erin at the club. He later invites her to privately dance for him and wants her to become his wife, against his staff's wishes. Along the way, to all of this someone at the club also recognized him and wants Erin to help blackmail the congressman. Erin suspects more is going on than meets the eye.

There's also a series of murders going on in Miami and Erin suspects the congressman could be involved. Not only is she trying to get her daughter back from the deadbeat exhusband, she's also trying to pin the congressman to the wall for crime.

A Renewed Crush

Like most people in America, I've got a Netflix account. Last week, one of my recommended movies (which always vary in quality) was a little known Dean Cain movie called, Bed and Breakfast.
I watched the movie and afterwards, I realized it renewed my crush on Dean Cain. Am I the only one who remembers when he hit it big on The New Adventures of Superman? Hello Dean Cain in spandex. Ring a bell?
Yeah, that's what I thought.

So then I started to wonder what he's been up to in recent years. I then of course googled him and learned that he now has a son and that he's been going through/went through a really hard custody battle. I also learned that his career is kinda... well... now limited to Lifetime movies and their equivalent. I wonder who he pissed off in Hollywood because if you watch Bed and Breakfast, you'll soon realize he's still very good looking and his acting isn't horrible.

Either way, I'm glad Netflix recommended the movie because now I've got my renewed crush on him and have tried to find all of his other movies. He's made a few!

Theater Thursday

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing around these parts... it's Theater Thursday! This week's featured movie is, In Time
I know I mentioned this movie when I originally saw it in the theater but trust me, this one is worth mentioning again. In Time stars Justin Timberlake as Will Salas, a young man living in the ghetto. Sylvia Weis (Amanda Seyfried) is from New Greenwich the richest time zone in the world. When they meet their worlds collide the worlds time system will now be put to the test.

Instead of currency, everything is paid with time. Got an electric bill due? That'll be 2 weeks.  Need an expensive breakfast... that'll be 8 weeks. Get the idea? Once you run out of time... you die. Those with time live forever. Those with no time don't live at all. Their spent working in factories and stealing to try to survive.

Will has a new idea. Sylvia gets pulled in for the ride. This movie is really good. If you've never seen it, get it! It's a new movie worth watching!
