Fitness Guru

What's the best thing to do when you're trying to get back into fitness and working out? You follow two major fitness people on Instagram. I've been following Marissa Rivero for a long time but I recently started following her mentor and coach Ingrid Romero.

This lady is awesome! She has started an amazing company and competitive team called Team Edge. Her athletes win in almost every category they show up to compete in. She also has an amazing workbook and video that I got for Easter. This is a serious workout. It is no joke. I've only done one of the 4 workouts on it and it worked me out hard. I use her workbook every single day though alternating between arms and legs.
I also got more motivated by getting nice workout clothing...

And now I really want these shoes... does anyone know where I can find them? I've looked everywhere but it's hard to find the New Balance shoes without knowing their name or number.
I'm also meal planning. I've completely changed my meals for 6 days a week. I'm eating turkey bacon, egg white omelets, rice cakes, almond butter etc. It's been really hard but I'm going for it and working on it each day. Do I want to come home, eat a box of fudge rounds and never work out? Yep! But it's all about choices. And hello... I have a wedding to get in shape for!

I also need really fast music to work out to. I need upbeat music like Britney Spears, Lady Gaga etc. I can't listen to anything slow while working out or it slows me down. I slow down running with the music and then can't get going again until another song comes on. Any recommendations on good music right now?

So that's where I'm at my fitness. I'm working out, trying to eat right and following people on instagram who make me want to stay on track! What keeps you motivated?

Five on Friday

1. Easter is here this weekend! It came fast this year. I'm very excited to see what the Easter bunny has in store.

2. Beezy's best friend's wife had her baby this week. Beezy loves babies and he can't wait to be a dad one day (far away). We went and visited them in the hospital a few hours after he was born. Meet Lennox...

3. Meal planning. All week long we have done meal planning. I'm not talking about just writing on a calendar what you're going to eat each night for dinner. Beezy made all of my lunches and dinner for the week on Monday and that's exactly what I ate. That also meant that we had to go to the grocery store and stock up on the exact things that a trainer has said to eat. We of course had to get meat...

4. Real mail. I love getting real letters in the mail. My Maid of Honor who happens to be one of my best friends sent us a really nice card in the mail. It made me smile. It's always nice to know people care about you as much as you care about them. I'll have to say even though she lives on the other side of the country she's been there for me this whole time!

5. Since I'm trying to get fit and look great for the wedding, I've cut out all kinds of fabulous foods but I know it will be worth it. I saw this meme the other day and totally laughed.

Five on Friday

1. I finally watched Silver Linings Playbook.

It was amazing. Jennifer Lawrence totally deserved that Oscar she won. I missed the movie in the theater and I just hadn't got around to watching it. Oh my goodness... I wish I would have watched it sooner.

2. On Wednesday night, I went and saw the classic film Groundhog day in the theater. Cinemark is doing a series of recent classic movies in the theater and this one was a part of it. I love Bill Murray and whenever this movie is on, I always find myself watching it. Did you know he considers this his best work? He does.

3. I've found my favorite Quest bar flavor... so far. I'm about half way through trying all of the 12 flavors and the Cinnamon Roll flavor is definitely the frontrunner.

4. The Olympics! I always love watching the Olympics and I'm hoping this year's will be great. I'm hoping Russia can keep all the athletes safe and put on a really good games. I'll be watching, that's for sure!

5. California is finally getting rain! We've been in a serious water situation out here. We've been in the rain season for months and hadn't got any rain until recently. The lakes are drying up, everyone is on water restrictions and it's looking pretty serious. The few days of rain we've had won't make a huge difference but any rain is good!

Weekend Review

I've really been working on what I've been eating. I knew going into this year that I really wanted to focus on my eating habits and working out. I'm happy to report the past two weeks, I've been eating better. I've consumed more fruit and vegetables and got my fill of protein. I've even working out on my treadmill a few times now. Am I still eating other food that I probably shouldn't? Yep. BUT I'm eating it in less quantities and I'm aware of that.

This was a nice snack...
I've tried four different flavors of Quest Bars and this has been my favorite one so far. The Double Chocolate Chunk. It's only 160 calories, has less than 1 gram of sugar and 20 grams of protein. Now that's a protein bar people. I've also become obsessed with the song...
It seriously kept me going on the treadmill the other day. I had originally heard it at the Kings game but never knew what song it was until last week when I was in the car it came on. I love it! I always have the beat stuck in my head.

I'm still trying to make friends with this cat. His name is Tesco. I've learned if I brush him he'll at least sit there and pretend to like me.

I bought two more owls at the craft store. Beezy and I turned them into Elvis and his number one fan. Beezy did the Elvis one and I was very impressed. He portrayed him in the famous Rainfall jumpsuit.

Speaking of the Kings. I went to the Kings game on Friday night. They played the Indiana Pacers. The Kings have been on a good playing streak and they played a great game. They lost it by only a few points in overtime.
Now it's Monday and I'm already ready for the weekend! Can someone I know win the lottery and give me a million. I think I could make that last long enough!

Five on Friday

1. I got an after Christmas gift from someone...
It's a Brahmin bag! It's color is officially Cocoa and it's amazing. It has that new bag smell and I never want it to go away. It's packed with all my essentials.

2. On my quest to get fit, I ordered these beauties...
I ordered the sampler box. Quest makes 12 flavors and this box includes one of each flavor. Now I can try them out and see which ones I like best. Has anyone tried these?

3. Vacation planning. Who doesn't love a good vacation?
Puerto Rico anyone? It looks like I'm going to San Juan!

and Hawaii...

So if you've ever been to either place, I'm open to any suggestions for fun things to see and do! I can't wait.

4. Remember my quest to get fit...
Look who got a treadmill. Yeah, it's a manual but you know what? That just means I'll have to work harder and the quest to get fit will be worth it.

5. Kings game! There was a Kings game this week and of course I was there. They played the Charlotte Bobcats but clearly they can't get it together and lost. I always go with Beezy because he's the season ticket holder!

Workin' On My Fitness

When I was in high school and college, I was very active. I twirled for Marshall and because of that I was very active. I worked out in the gym everyday for hours. I had practices that would last for multiple hours every day. On game days I was be active for 8-10 hours and in every day life I was pretty active. I think because of that I was very fit. I had defined arms, a flat stomach and some meaty legs. Granted, I didn't have the best eating habits but I was eating. I wasn't a huge fan of vegetables. I was a college student and loved pizza, fries, noodles, etc. During college this is probably the skinniest that I was...
Let's not talk about my major watch tan line. I know.

I got really, really thin after my first major relationship break up and got sickly thin. I think I weighed like 115 here. Since I'm about 5'4'' and actually do have big bones it wasn't attractive. At the time I thought I looked fantastic because I mean really who doesn't want to be skinny in college? Looking back on these photos I was too thin. My big bones were sticking out.

But considering I like to eat...

Flash forward to 2013 and I'm starting to notice that I need to get in shape again. I need to work on my fitness. I want to spend this year working on getting back into shape and toning up my arms, stomach and legs. Santa has phoned me from the North Pole and let me in on the secret that I'm getting a treadmill for Christmas. I'm also going to invest in some hand weights. I'm going to work on eating better and by better I mean actually ingest things like wheat bread, fruits and vegetables. I'm also going to try out protein bars and healthy drinks. I'm going to have to break up with In-N-Out and my beloved Crab Rangoon from the local Chinese place. I'm going to put down the chocolate covered peanut butter balls, the little Debbie cakes and replace them with carrots and grapes.

Why have I decided to do this now? Because I'm going to  be 30 in June. I want to rock an awesome two piece bathing suit. I want to be physically fit again. The big motivator for me is that I've got an idea for something in the fall but I'm not willing to share it yet. I know I have to be in good physical shape for it, that's for sure! So we shall see kids. January 1st the fitness is on!

Now I just need to compile a good music playlist for working out. Suggestions? Also if anyone has any suggestions on nutritional drinks, shakes, bars etc. Please let me know! I need/want things that do not contain caffeine and less than 2grams in sugar.

My Newest Obsession

For the past 2 weeks I have been doing yoga.
I decided to do it on a whim one day and fell in love with it. I've been doing it 3 times a week and to me it feels fun and not like a work out. Don't get me wrong, I sweat while participating but it doesn't feel like one of those makes me want to cry kill me now tradition workouts. For me that's what got me hooked. I don't want to be screamed at while working out. I don't wanna hear, "Give me 5 more!" I just want to work out in peace.

I love the poses. I love that it's helping me bring back some of my flexibility that I've lost. I love that it makes me feel good. I also love to golf clap at the end because I just feel that good.
For me to be excited about a workout is unreal. I haven't been motivated for a long time in the work out department. I use to be obsessed with working out in college and since then it fell to the way side. Yoga... it's putting me in a good balance.
So my question is, do any of you do yoga? I've been trying to find places online that sell great yoga clothing but for cheap. I'm the only girl who's been rocking gym shorts and a t-shirt so I'm thinking I might need to rectify that soon. But I'm also not one of those girls who wears strappy little tank tops and tight tight shorts to the gym. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

May or May not haves....

I may or may not have cried the entire time while watching Army Wives.
I may or may not have discovered a great new show called Drop Dead Diva.
I may or may not be addicted to watching Big Brother.
I may or may not have been uncomfortably hit on at work yesterday.
I may or may not have figured out what I want to dress up as for Halloween.
I may or may not have cheated on my calorie count this week...ok this was a for sure.

A New Day

Today I started counting calories. I've done this before but it's been a very long time. I decided that since our countdown only has a mere 119 days (note the sarcasm in the mere) that it's time I get in gear. I don't know where my Jillian Michaels Shred dvd is but it still has not arrived. Thank goodness I have the Jackie Warner WorkOut dvd to fall back on. I'm going to limit myself to 1250 calories a day. I feel like I've been eating everything! It's time to figure out if I actually have been! Haha!

Work today and tomorrow then it's my weekend!!! Yay! However, quilt pictures will have to wait until tomorrow. Sorry!

Yesterday for those of you wondering which Christmas movie I watched. I dusted off All I Want For Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you've never seen it. It's a must add to your Christmas Holiday movie list!
