Bridal Shower

My Bridal Shower was held on Saturday. I didn't have anything to do with the planning or the decorations. So of course with my type A personality and need to organize/control party planning it was extremely hard to just show up. The theme did not disappoint! It was none other than...
If you really know me then you know I love this movie! I feel like I could be Joan Wilder and this movie is a total guide to life. The decorations at the shower were fabulous and went great with the theme. We even had an alligator!

Besides the great decorations we had the movie playing in the background incase anyone who was at the party hadn't seen it. Seriously, if you've never seen Romancing the Stone go buy it right now! The party was catered by Chipotle which I love and it fitted the theme! Once we were done eating, I got to open up gifts. This awesome cake stand that I had been wanting for awhile came from my mom.

An aunt of my fiancé found out how much I love Christmas and got us this really cute engagement ring ornament to go on our tree. The day after the party that ornament went directly on to the tree!

No party is ever complete without cake. Thanks to Freeport bakery they nailed the color green! Plus the cake was delicious! It had a chocolate fudge filling and was super rich.

The only thing missing was all of my east coast friends and my mom! I was really wishing they could be there but maybe we will do something all together during our wedding weekend? Maybe! I have to say this party wouldn't have come together if it wasn't for my fabulous fiancé. He did a lot of the planning, decorating and organizing! Love you!

My Real Life Romancing the Stone

I love the movie Romancing the Stone.

I've posted about it on Theater Thursday and I posted about why it's not just a movie. When I first moved to California, I started watching the movie more often than I had before. The movie sort of became my go to comfort. It always made me feel better when I was watching it. I'd come home after a long day at work to an empty house, eat some dinner and put on the movie. I loved the story and it just made me feel better.

When Beezy and I first started dating, one night we were trying to figure out what movie to watch. I told him let's see what is already in the dvd player and watch it. Guess what movie it was? Romancing the Stone.

He had never seen it.

That settled it. We had to watch it. We cued up the movie and that's when I realized I was living my own real life version of Romancing the Stone.

  • Joan (Kathleen Turner) writes romance novels. I write a blog.
  • Joan has a miniature liquor bottle collection. I have a miniature liquor bottle collection too!
  • Joan was single and believed the man of her dreams was out there. Amen sister, me too! He's out there.
  • Joan has to leave everything and go to another country. I left everyone I knew and went to the other side of the country.
  • Joan has a cat named Romeo. I have a cat named Tesco.

Joan has written tons of romantic novels that feature a guy whom she'd love to meet in real life. In her books his name is Jessie.

I don't know how but I had forgot that this was her fictional hero's name. Guess what Beezy's real middle name is... Jessie. I couldn't believe it! How coincidental was this?! So what happens when she meets her real life hero? They didn't exactly hit it off at first. Beezy and I were just friends in the beginning.

During their time in the movie together Joan and Jack (Michael Douglas) have to go through a lot together but they become stronger. They become a team. I've learned that I have become stronger over time. Emotionally stronger. Mentally stronger. I know that I can do whatever I set my mind to. Now with Beezy in my life I feel even stronger. He feels stronger. We're become a team. We've become our version of Joan and Jack T Colton.

And that's how I'm living my real life romancing the stone. I'm loving every minute of it.

Booze Bottles

Let's talk about miniatures.
Today I want to talk about miniature alcohol bottles. The majority of the time people pick up these small liquor bottles when they are traveling. The bottles are easy to stow away on cruise ships, carry on a plane or just keep in your pocket/purse. The small bottles are convenient and not as pricey as buying a whole bottle. Now... while all of that is true. That's not why I'm talking about miniatures here. I'm talking about them because of this movie...
Yep! If you've read for awhile you know that one of my all time favorite movies is Romancing The Stone. I have a major obsession with it. I know it. I admit it. Oh well! So in the movie, Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner) has a large collection of miniatures in a curio cabinet that she is seen getting bottles out of a few times before she leaves for Columbia. I don't know why but I've always had a little bit of an obsession with the small bottles. Maybe because they are cute? Well every time I see the movie, I think that would be cool to have a collection like that. Plus when I was growing up I can remember that in my household we had a small collection as well in the kitchen. I can even remember a tequila one with the worm in it! Sooo... guess what I've started to collect? Yep, you guessed right! Miniature alcohol bottles.

I have the three pictured above and I've recently acquired a few more. Now I'm on the hunt for the perfect curio cabinet. I think my grandma has one that will work. It's just getting out to California all in one piece. Here's to hoping this project works out! I'll be sure to show it off once I get it.

Why It's Not Just A Movie

I have a major obsession with the movie, Romancing the Stone.
Ok. Fine. I admit it. It's more than a major obsession. I don't even know what to call it, that's how obsessed I am with this movie. I watch it probably at least 4 times a week.... and honestly I'm low balling it. I'd say it's probably at least 6 times a week. Granted, most of the time I'm just too lazy to get up and change it out of the dvd player but in reality, I'm actually obsessed with this movie. I could probably quote the whole thing to you right now if you asked. I also know little obscure facts about it. So what am I so obsessed? Let's dive right in!

1. It's a good movie. It's got Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner. Let's not forget Danny DeVito.
2. It takes place in a country that I myself am too afraid to ever visit so I can travel there through them.
3. She's a romance novelist who really believes her fairytale man is out there.
4. It has really good one liners.
5. Crocodiles!!! Enough said!
6. It's got spanish words in it so you can pick up some spanish for free.
7. It shows any woman get be independent.
8. They teach you how to react in a crisis situation: Drink. Panic or fight your way out.
9. Reaffirms the Life lesson: Always pack an umbrella and carry travelers checks.
10. It has a happy ending.

I could go on and on but I wont. My mom and I also like to compare my life to Joan Wider (which is Kathleen Turner's character in the movie). We've noticed quite a few similarities. Joan travels to a far away place on her own. CHECK! I've done that one. Joan goes into the unknown. CHECK! Joan holds on to the hope that the man of her dreams is out there. CHECK! Joan is willing to do whatever it takes. She may crack along the way but she's going to make sure she gets there. She gets the job done. CHECK!

So I will continue to watch this movie. It's my motivation. It's my calming movie after a rough day. It makes me smile.
