To Read or Not to Read?

Last night, I finally gave in. I watched the movie, Eat Pray Love.
If there's a book and it becomes a movie, I usually try to read the book before watching the movie. Leading up to the movie coming out, I had seen tons and tons of mixed reviews about the book. I waited months and months to watch the movie because I wanted to read the book first. Well... I haven't been able to read the book still. I've been making my way through a stack of books and just haven't bought it.

Now that I've seen the movie, I'm intrigued. I'm sure there's things in the book that the movie left out. But really... I'm most intrigued by the relationship that she forms. Maybe I should just read the second book she wrote as a follow up, Committed?

So what do you say? Have you read the book and seen the movie? Should I give the book a read? Or should I skip the first book altogether and just read Committed?

Eh. I kind of felt the same way about the book as I did the movie...it was OK. Not the worst book I ever read, but not one I'd ever pick up again. Honestly the only reason I even saw the movie was because I love Julia Roberts so much!

Personally, I've read better books. I thought the part in India really dragged (drug?) on, almost to the point of me not wanting to finish the book. I know there are mixed reviews on it though.

I only made it half way through the book, and then I got too bored to finish... so I would say you could skip it.

XOXO

I actually though the movie was really boring. I didn't read the book but it didn't really call to me so I doubt I will.

I love the beginning and the end of the book. I skimmed quickly through the middle. I was glad I read it though. I also love Committed. I love nonfiction books though - especially ones that weave history through their real life accounts. :)

ehh. The book was OK. Since you already watch the movie, I'd say don't read the book. I read it and wasn't all that crazy about it.

Read the book and loved it. Usually I like books more just because they give you more insight on characters and all. So need to see this movie. Still. I am so behind. :) Haha!

I read the book first, and I thought it was interesting. But I ended up liking the movie better. (Julia Roberts is just awesome!)

I tried reading Committed, but I found it boring and didn't finish it. To me, it read more like a textbook about culture/marriage and less like a memoir.

Either way, let me know what you think about the book and/or movie!

I've read the book but haven't seen the movie. I liked the book a lot, although I had a few complaints about it . . . I agree that the India part dragged, and there were parts that were a little self-obsessed or something. But in general, I liked it enough to want to read her other books!

I've heard a lot of mixed things about the book, although I haven't read it yet. Whereas with Committed most of what I've heard is negative. From what I've heard Eat, Pray, Love is more of a memoir. Whereas Committed is more of a non-fiction book that explores the point of marriage.

I reckon if it's just the relationship you're interested in, read Committed. I found that the book got a little boring as well.

I am the opposite! I've read the book but haven't seen the movie!

I see all of Julia's movies but the reviews were so poor that I didn't go see it. And I didn't read the book . Don't waste your time. Read the Maze Runner trilogy or Hunger Games. (I love young adult and I don't know why).

Love the movie, but love the book even more! Yes, I thought the India part dragged on a bit, but I love how it was broken up, and her writing style- conversational. I haven't read Committed yet, but it's on my list!

Skip the movie AND book. Neither are all that good.

I haven't read the book or seen the movie but I remember when the book first came out - folks were RAVING about it. I'll have to add it to my list to check out.

The book is much better than the movie.

Committed is interesting, but not fantastic,

I can't wait to hear what you decide! I've been the same way with this one. Haven't seen the movie or read the book, but have heard mixed things... And every time I pick it up at the store, I read the back and go "eh" and put it back down. haha!

I was pretty "meh" about the movie - but I did like the book! And Committed was okay too. Not a favorite book, but not awful. Not sure if that helps your decision or not...

I really hope the book is better than the movie, because the movie felt seriously lacking to me.
