Last year I read Bethenny Frankel's book called, A Place of Yes.
I read it mainly because I liked Bethenny from watching The Real Housewives and her spin off show. She had become this widely successful woman and I wanted to see what she had to say. I read the book and I thought it was pretty good. The thing that stuck with me the most though was what she likes to call "noise".
Everyone has noise. Some have noise in different ways and some like me have more than just one noise. I have a lot of money noise. I am constantly trying to pay off debt, pay my bills, pay for things in my daily life and at the same time try to save money. By the time my next pay check comes, I've already figured out where every penny has to go. It gets old really quick but I know that being debt free one day will be amazing! Hello to no car payments! Can't wait! I've made that choice. I've said yes, to paying off debt.
Sometimes I have relationship noise. There's always going to be someone out there with an opinion who voices it unsolicited. There's always going to be jealous, bitter people who want nothing more than to see others just as unhappy as they are. That's when you have to STOP and tell yourself that it doesn't matter what others think, say or do. It's not their relationship.
Daily I have career noise. Do I want to keep working day in and day out in the exact same career spot that I'm at now? Um.... no! So I give myself an ulcer hoping and wondering if and when I'm going to transfer and if I'm going to get this promotional position that I've wanted since December. Again, people love to tear you down when they think their unhappy with themselves and how their own lives are going. I just remind myself that I'm young and that I'm not stuck anywhere.
Some days I don't have any noise at all. Then there's the days that career noise or relationship noise comes out rearing it's ugly head. It's in those moments that I take a deep breath and remember that it's my life and I'm saying YES to the decisions that I've made for it. Does anyone else go through this?

Ohhh I have much of the same noise, especially the money noise! I like this concept! I may have to pick up this book, I've heard lots of great things about it.
I can totally relate to this! There's always CONSTANT noise in my life and I never seem to get rid of it! Particularly career noise and now relationship noise. The noise is so loud I'm losing sleep over it! I need to get it together.
hey sweetie! I used to watch Bethany on that show and she was hilarious! As for "the noise" I totally understand what both of you mean. We all share pretty much the same noise. And we all have to pretty much tell it to be quiet!

I'm having a ton of "noise" right now- you're not alone. Maybe I'll pick up Bethany's book and read it over spring break.
This sounds like a book that I really need to get my hands on. I feel like right now I'm at a major turning point in my life and a book like this could help guide me to the place I want to be.
Hmm maybe I should read this book. I stress myself out A LOT...over stupid stuff. I need to learn how to turn off the noise because my worrying causes me serious headaches and I can't keep doing this to myself.
Thanks for the info!
This makes me think of the SATC episode when Charlotte is getting acupuncture and the doctor says something about learning how to "quiet the daily noise." The many words of wisdom from that show...I miss it!
Hmm...that is interesting! I need to read that book! And figure out what my noise is...
Let me know if you see any jewelry you like and I can place an order for you. Shipping is free :)
Amen amen amen! I have all of that noise! Thanks for the bits of wisdom :)
I have noise from all over the place.
I so need to read this book, because I feel like I have a LOT of noise going on right now:)
I read Bethany's book and it was amazing! It gave me a total different outlook on life and taught me how to handle the every-day problems that may arise. And yes, my biggest challenge is to block out all the "noise" of daily life and to free myself of all stress! Right there with you!
For me... I have money and career noise and I consider them directly related.
I've been trying to get a promotion for YEARS, and its really difficult to have to settle for my current job since I know I deserve so much better BUT I guess I should be glad that I have a job at all right?
I definitely have a LOT of money/debt noise. It's a constant struggle trying to pay down debt, while still having a life!
Recently I'm having career and relationship noise too. I just try to breathe, and take some alone time to clear out the noise, or work on ways to "fix" the noise.
Good luck! Hope you find some quiet soon!
