A Twist on my Transfer/Move

If you missed my last update on my work transfer and moving you can find that post here

This post is now what's come after that. It's now been 424 days since I turned in my transfer and how long I have been waiting to move. The good news is that I was told that I'm still sitting at number one on the wait list and that the next available spot would be mine. The bad news is that they told me they had no idea when they would pull from the list and that for the foreseeable future they will only be taking part time people.

Umm.... part time? Who can afford to live anywhere in the USA let alone the state of California on a part time salary? I know I can't. So their decision to only take part time people has made me reevaluate what I'm going to do. You see, as an employee in my current job, I can have 3 open transfer requests in at the same time. The entire 424 days I have had three California locations listed: Sacramento, Burbank and Long Beach.

As of right now yes, I'm number one on the transfer list for Sacramento but as for the other two I am very far down as in the 20's and 30's. Those numbers are after waiting 424 days. So I've made the ultimate decision to remove Long Beach and replace it with one of these locations...
Seattle
or
Las Vegas
I just can't decide which one to put on the list. To me they both have their plus and negatives. I've been to Vegas a few times but not Seattle. There's something about it though that draws it to me. If any of you have ever lived in either of these cities or currently do, please e-mail me (jmomiller@gmail.com) and give me your opinions. I need all the advice that I can get!

Until I decide which city to replace Long Beach with I will still be sitting on the list for Sacramento and Burbank. Here's to crossing your fingers!

I have never been to Seattle but I have a friend who lives in Las Vegas. She actually lives in Henderson which is pretty much touching Vegas. She is close to pretty mountains but also close enough to drive to the Las Vegas strip in like 15 minutes. I like going to visit her and my hair is always much less frizzy there.

YOu are so brave... I love it! I love Vegas, have never been to Seattle and for some reason, I feel that same attraction! I hope you get some great advice, and make the best decision for yourself :)

Do you know Erika from Rouge and Whimsy? She's lived in Seattle for quite a few years and could probably give you some insight.

Here's the link to her blog: http://rougeandwhimsy.blogspot.com/

Crazy, huh?
I'd vote for Vegas. Not because of the playground, but because I believe the desert is beautiful! And the not-too-distant mountains. And dry. Oh so dry. I'm a little sick of wet right now. LOL :D

Good luck making that decisions and getting your transfer.

I say go for Seattle... but do what you want of course. :o)

BURBANK! You would be so close to me.
The plus of Vegas would be cost of living, in Vegas it's low but you can still drive to the west coast.

I vote Seattle! I live near there! ;)

Good decision, girl. Do you read Kelsey at the Seattle Smiths or Carol at Everyday Delights (both on my side links on my blog)? They live in Seattle and could offer great input I'm sure!

Never been to Vegas.

The hubby was stationed near Seattle. There is lots to do there and the mountains are nice. But.... it rains all the time. The people are rude. It's not like how it is here (and I assume somewhat like WV). Not many people are willing to help out a stranger or anything like that. It's also super expensive there.

I'm not sure I'd want to move there but you may love it.

Out of those three you were smart to remove Long Beach. Unless you want to commute, it's expensive to live in beach cities and LB is split into nice and...not nice.

Being so close to Vegas I have friends who live in or have lived in Vegas. It's kind of a person-by-person case. You hate it or love it.

I don't live there, but I'm going to visit Seattle and the Pacific Northwest in less than a month! I'll let you know how it was!

Oh I wish I had some sage advice...alas I have none. For me Las Vegas is where you don't sleep, Seattle is where it rains. A lot. Best of luck with your choice:) The world is your oyster baby!

Oooh! Change can be so fun! I love that you're open to adventure and moving! That's so awesome :)

I lived in Seattle, and my two biggest downsides would be cost of living and the rain. People aren't overly friendly, but it's a nice place. I've never lived in Vegas but we got married there, and I do have friends who live there.

In Seattle, you may have to live in the suburbs to find reasonable housing, depending on what you're looking for. Potentially likely in Vegas as well. I enjoyed Seattle, but I was excited for Texas for the heat and sunshine.

I have been waiting for a post like this because I really was wondering what the heck was going on there. :( Sad you had to remove Long Beach...I'd go with Vegas for some reason...although I know Seattle's supposed to be wonderful! :)

I would definitely go with Seattle. I've been there, although it was when I was in 8th grade so it's been a while. But I feel like Vegas seems like a great place to visit, but not a place I'd want to live.

I've been to Vegas and Seattle. I loved both, but could not see myself living in Vegas. Seattle was amazing! You'd love Pike Place Market with all the fresh produce and flowers! The only negative I can think of: I have heard it rains a lot in Seattle. Good luck!

That's a big decision! I've only been to Seattle once, but I lived in Washington for 5 years. Seattle is great, I'd totally live there. I've only driven through Vegas, but my sister currently lives there and really enjoys is. Do you want rain or heat?
