Let's admit it, if you've ever seen one of my Theater Thursday post then you already know that I'm a big fan of films from the 1980's. I can't help it. I just can't get enough of them. Most of them are light and fun and everything ends up OK in the end. So without further ado, the top 5 reasons why I love 80's movies and wish my life was one of them.
1. The Guys
Hello... have you seen 16 Candles? Jake Ryan is adorable. Then you've got Matthew Broderick via Ferris Bueller's Day Off, a teenage Patrick Dempsey in Can't Buy Me Love, Emilio Estevez in the Breakfast Club and no 1980's movie would be complete without John Cusack. All of the men are funny, confident and let's be honest... cute!
2. Grand Gestures
Driving all night to get to the one you love. Standing outside with a boom box over their head. Getting on a plane and flying across the world. Undertaking huge endeavors to be with the one you love. Spilling your guts out in front of complete strangers and wearing your heart on your sleeve in the hopes of getting your feelings reciprocated. Who wouldn't want someone to do one of these things?
3. The Guy Always Get's the Girl and vice versa
The guy/girl always ends up with the one they've been chasing. Usually, one of the fore-mentioned grand gestures takes place allowing it to happen. Pretty In Pink is a prime example of this. She goes to the prom thinking she's done with the boy and the boy makes the grand gesture of getting his toxic friends out of his life to end up with her.
4. Awesome Music
Every 80's movie has got great music backing it up. It would be like walking around with theme song after theme song supplying the background to your life. Every time I hear, Don't You Forget About Me, I instantly picture Judd Nelson fist pumping. And when I hear Danger Zone, I can't get Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer's volleyball playing abs out of my head from Top Gun. Then you've got movies like Flashdance and Footloose who's whole soundtracks are amazing!
5. The Antics
No matter what they were always getting into something crazy. Never a dull moment!
So my question to all of you, what's your favorite 1980's movie?

AHHH! I die for Jake Ryan!
That being said, I think my all time favorite is The Breakfast Club. Or Sixteen Candles. Or Say Anything. I cannot decide!
I've gotta go with Footloose and BIG
I love them all but my top two are 16 Candles and Back To The Future.
Say Anything...or A Sure Thing - what can I say, I jones for John Cusack.
I also LOVE Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
I am borderline obsessed with Ferris and the Breakfast Club in high school. I found myself nodding all throughout this post.
I think my all-time fav 80's movie has to be Top Gun!! Waaayyyyy to many hottie in that movie!! ;)
I LOVE THIS POST! This is one of my favorite posts of all time, no lie!!
I could NEVER choose one favorite 80's movie, but I will talk about one that you didn't reference: Some Kind of Wonderful. Best friends falling in love after not realizing their desire for one another at first? ROMANTIC! Eric Stoltz? SWOON!
Also, LOVE The Goonies!
Im a teenager and I LOVE 80's movies and the music. I love Patrick dempsey from can't buy me love, lover boy and others and i didnt know he is now mcdreamy from Grey's anatomy! He was so sweet, good looking and his career has continued. I'd love to be in an 80's movie, everything is just so nice and perfect. I love Jake Ryan, too. Actually I think I just love all the boys because they are so different to the boys today, they are so much better and such gentleman!
