Theater Thursday

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing around these parts... its Theater Thursday! This week is a little different than normal. I'm choosing a movie that's currently in theaters! What movie would make me do this? Gravity.
Gravity stars Sandra Bullock as Ryan Stone, a medical engineer who's on her first space mission. While outside of the space shuttle, working on a piece of machinery for the satellite she and her fellow astronaut Matt Kowalski (George Clooney) are told that a Russian satellite was blown up bye the Russians and has caused a lot of debris. They are both told by Houston Mission Control that everything is status quo and that the debris is not within their field of range.

However, a few minutes later Houston realizes that the debris has knocked out other satellites in it's wake, causing the debris to increase in speed and come within their direct field of contact. They are told to abort their work and get back inside the shuttle.  Unfortunately they don't have enough time to get back inside the shuttle and are stranded out in space in only their suits with the oxygen that is carried inside them. They soon realize that the shuttle is damaged beyond repair and they can't use it to get home.

Without giving too much of the movie away, I'm going to stop on the plot. I loved this movie for multiple reasons but before I go into them, let me just say... I know that a lot of the things that happen in this movie really couldn't have happened. BUT we have to remember this is a movie... for entertainment! So... what I loved: Sandra Bullock and her acting. I fully believe the Oscar buzz on her in this role. She deserves to be at least nominated. Another thing I loved, the special effects. If they didn't publicize the fact that they didn't film this in zero gravity, you wouldn't know it. I also loved the views of the earth, sun and general space that they showed. I swear they got the footage from NASA.

So go this weekend and watch this movie. See it in Imax if possible because I think the views of space in an IMAX theater would be outstanding!

I want to see this movie but the commercials stress me out! I feel like I'd be freaked out the whole time!
