(Pumpkins from the pumpkin house in 2008)
Yesterday, I talked about The Great Pumpkin House. If you missed it go check it out. However, for those of you who did not miss it, I received a lot of questions. So look no further, here is the answers!
Does the pumpkin house really exist? Yes, yes it does. It's located in Kenova,WV and takes place every year.
How do they carve that many pumpkins in such a short amount of time without them going bad? Ok, the people who own the pumpkin house actually live in the house all year round. It only becomes the pumpkin house the weekend before Halloween and during the week itself. What normally happens is the local newspaper will announce that the family is gutting pumpkins, and carving them. Tons and tons of people go to their house and help them out. It's a community effort. The weather around here by that time is usually cool so it's not like their sitting out in the heat.
How do they decide what gets carved? The family will draw the design on each pumpkin so who ever is there to carve it knows what to do. They also take suggestions each year. Normally, they have a wide spectra of what's on the pumpkins. They have religious pumpkins, sports pumpkins, every state outline and abbreviation pumpkins and many many more!
Do they charge to see the pumpkins? No. It's absolutely free. They do have a concession stand which takes cash only.
How many pumpkins do they normally have? At LEAST 3,000 + I know about 2 or 3 years ago they wanted to beat the record of the most carved pumpkins and they had done over 4,000 so I think it just varies every year.
Hope this helped you out!!! Come visit it this year! You might see me there!!

I did a mapquest to see how far away it was the house is from me. Sadly, it's just a bit to far for us to probably make a trip. However, I am excited about carving our own pumpkins at our house!
It would be so much fun to be in on the carving! :)
