At the same time my mom didn't want to have a dinner or go to a dinner unless I could be there. I had been able to get the time off work but the flight prices were just insane. The closer and closer we got to the actual holiday the more they skyrocketed. I had been invited by a friend to spend Thanksgiving in Tahoe and had agreed to go. I would at least get to spend the holiday with a friend and their family and eat some turkey. Around the two weeks before Thanksgiving mark, I got a message from my mom. She bought me a flight for Thanksgiving (I had purchased the Christmas flight at an insane price over 2 months ago). I was so shocked and excited!
I was going home for Thanksgiving!
I left Sacramento on Wednesday. The snow storms of the east coast had been cancelling flights right and left so I got lucky and my flight was on time. I had the shortest layover ever in Chicago at O'Hare with only 40 minutes to sprint from one terminal to the other and get to the opposite end. I was on a mission. I bolted out of that plane and literally did a full on run. There is nothing like a short connection to make you realize how out of shape you really are. But I made it to the flight and they started boarding!
I finally arrived in West Virginia a little before midnight and was reunited with my mom...
We had a great Thanksgiving meal together and I got to see some people that I hadn't seen for awhile. Plus... who doesn't love turkey skin? Yum!
Maybe I'm in the minority but this year the Black Friday sales starting on Thanksgiving really got under my skin. Don't get me wrong, I love a good deal and I love things on sale BUT making people go to work on one of the only days that I can remember as a kid, for years, always closing on the actual holiday... well that's just not cool. So I refused to go out and do any black Friday shopping on Thursday at all. In fact, I only went to one store on Friday and did three online shopping things. To anyone who had to work on Thanksgiving, I'm sorry. Maybe next year it won't happen.
Now what did I buy online? Oh this little beauty...
That jacket came 30% off and with free shipping. Thank you Red Dress. I can't wait to sport it! I also got this Alex and Ani bangle 15% off and with free shipping. I'm a sucker for that free shipping...
I also indulged in one of my favorite West Virginia things... Tudors Biscuit World. God it's so good! I had the Duke which comes with egg, bacon, cheese and potato. Win!
Now that's how you spend 48 hours people!

I have an Alex and Ani bracelet on my wishlist for Christmas this year
I'm so glad that you got to go home for the holiday! The jacket is super cute.
So glad you got to go home for Thanksgiving! That's so sweet of your mom! And I agree about the Thanksgiving shopping. It really hacked me off...The people that are working probably can't afford NOT to work if they're scheduled on the holiday...and that makes me sad that that we're ripping those people from their homes so we can SHOP on a holiday. It's just dumb. Lately, I've been very anti consumerism, which is weird for me. Don't get me wrong...I doubt I'll go off the grid in my little ecohome any time soon, but the whole concept just annoys me. Spend more to work more to spend more...It's just dumb. I'd rather travel. *end rant* haha! XOXO!
The only thing I bought was a longline bra for the wedding, lol. But at 25% off and free shipping I couldn't not!
So happy you got to go home and see your mom for Thanksgiving. Are you going home for Christmas too?
SOOO glad you were able to go home for Thanksgiving! I love the holiday and definitely can relate with how much your miss your fam! Glad you got to see them!
Wow that is a whirlwind 48 hours! So happy you got to go home for the holiday! And I agree with the Black Friday thing- I can't believe that now it actually starts on Thanksgiving- so ridiculous! I didn't participate either. Love the jacket and bracelet you got!
I'm so conflicted about the making people work on Thanksgiving. My dad works on Thanksgiving and Christmas but he's a doctor so he needs to work. The same with the police and firefighters. But people working retail shouldn't feel like they have to work on Thanksgiving. It's probably more complicated than that since I hope they'd be paid extra to work on the holiday. They may want to work that day to make extra money to buy presents for their children. But will they really be given a choice or will they just be scheduled to work on Thanksgiving?
