Theater Thursday

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing... it's Theater Thursday! This week's featured movie is, The Great Outdoors.

The late, great John Candy stars as family man Chet Ripley. He's brought his wife Connie and two kids from Chicago to a lake resort in Pechoggin, Wisconsin. Their having a great family vacation that is until Connie's sister Kate (Annette Bening) and her husband Roman (Dan Aykroyd) show up unannounced and uninvited with their twin daughters in tow. Chet and Connie try to be polite and make the best of the situation. Roman and Kate's favorite thing to talk about is their extreme wealth. Chet works hard for his money and lives a good middle class lifestyle.

When the family starts sitting around the fire, they share ghost stories and Chet tells them the legend of the giant grizzly bear. Chet tells Roman and Kate how they spent their honeymoon on this same lake and how he was attached by a giant bear. When he fired a shot at the bear the bullet shaved his head and the bear ran off. They also go as a family waterskiing on the lake. Roman and Kate start to really grate on Chet and Connie's nerves and tension begins to run high when the bad weather causes them to be stuck in their cabin.

When a family emergency happens, the family will have to come together to get through it and will the vacation end? Watch this hilarious John Candy classic and you'll find out!

One of my favorite movies of all time. He and his family actually lived not far from where I live.
Too bad he passed. So many great comedians and actors have passed much too soon.

I think this is one of my husband, brother, and dad's favorite movies. I can just hear them laughing as they watch it. Must be a guy thing. I mean I think it's funny, but they really find it hilarious.

First off, I have NO idea how I haven't even heard of this movie when it has so many people in it. Second, that cover image is hilariously dated and I love it. Thanks for the suggestion!
