Theater Thursday

It's Thursday and that can only mean one thing... it's Theater Thursday! This week's featured movie is, Veronica Guerin.

Cake Blanchett stars in this based on a true story about Veronica Guerin. Who was Veronica? An Irish crime reporter who worked extremely hard in the 1990's to uncover the drug lords in Dublin, Ireland. She had no regard for her personal safety when working on a story. She felt that the people supplying drugs to kids on the street should be put front and center in the newspapers and held accountable for what they were doing to the community and their city. Over time she started to make enemies with major players in the underworld and that started to bring the threats.

Veronica received death threats not only on herself but her children, husband and immediate family. However, she still continued to report the truth and name names in her articles. One evening when she was at home, criminals broke into her home and shot her in the leg. At the time, police immediately gave her 24 hour protection. The newspaper also installed a security system with cameras. Veronica felt that it hampered her work and didn't want police around her 24/7.

This based on a true story movie, follows Veronica's life and her journey in trying to bring change to Dublin and how they deal with drug criminals.
